inforaza Paa is a lovely offbeat emotional movie revolving around a character suffering from an extremely rare disease of Progeria (rapid aging of the human body). R Balki's presentation of the story and Paa is very sincere and thoughtful. PROS of Paa1 - No cheap melodrama 2 - Sensitively handled story 3 - Positive portrayal of a progeria-afflicted Auro who is fun-loving and very intelligent 4 -Strong female characters in Vidya Balan & Arundhati Nag5 - Soulful music by the great IlayarajaCONS of Paa1. Auro is supposed to be 12-year old but Amitabh Bachchan is just too tall for that (obviously his casting was deliberate…only to attract more eyeballs no matter how unrealistic it is)2. Abhishek Bachchan is supposed to be a new age politician who wants to see a new India; but, strangely, in a scene he is shown to wish away the corrupt practice of a govt. employee with the logic that if he has given 50 lakh bribes for the job he has to "recover" it (How strange! Or did I miss out on something?)3. When Auro dies in the hospital Vidya is just standing by his bedside and mourning (it'd have been more appropriate if she had rested her head on his body and wept)4. After Auro's death Vidya and Abhishek are sitting outdoor on a staircase consoling each other, while it is raining (How Strange! How odd! What significance does this rain hold?)PS: Felt extremely sad when I read that the cute Taruni Sachdev (Auro's classmate) had died in a plane crash in 2012, in Nepal. I kept on looking at her photos as if I'd lost my own daughter. A sweet life was cut short even before it could develop wings to fly high. Taruni, where ever you are now, you will always be remembered by your near and dear ones, and esp. ME.

Chrysanthepop 'Paa' may be very loosely inspired by 'The Curious Case of Benjamin Button' and 'Jack' but the only resemblance is that the Benjamin character is born old (while he ages backwards) and that the Jack character also suffers from progeria. 'Paa' is very much its own film (at least I hope it's original) and it's better than Balki's previous movie 'Cheeni Kum'.What I liked about it most were the scenes that involved Auro, Vidya and Bum. They were very believable as a family. Vidya's and Bum's unconditional love for their son and grandson, respectively, shines on screen.Vidya Balan is remarkable as Auro's devoted mother. Arandathi Nag is very likable as Auro's grandmother, bum. Abhishek Bachchan is okay at best. Paresh Rawal brigns some comic relief but this time the humour that he brings is rather subtle which is a welcome change. Finally, Amitabh Bachchan steals the show as the twelve year old child struggling in the body of a seventy year old.On the flip side, the subplots regarding Amol's political career are boring and poorly handled. The sequences near the end are a little melodramatic and overdone (though it's not as bad as it was in 'Cheeni Kum'). At the same time it also a little.There are only a few songs but they are quite nice. The song that plays during the closing credits, sung by Amitabh Bachchan, is superb. The 'hichky' track and 'Uri Uri' are quite pleasant too. The execution is simplistic but good enough. The sets are decent. I liked how homely and cosy Auro's house looks.'Paa' is a decent watch and is mostly likable for the characters and Vidya Balan and Amitabh Bachchan's performance.

Sherazade OMIGOSH, this one got me. I couldn't stop crying. Amitabh Bachchan is a living legend. I actually was telling my sisters that he was the one playing Auro and they didn't believe me even after his real life wife introduced him at the beginning of the film. Yes, Big B is that good in his essaying the role of a tragic little boy suffering from progeria(a rare disease that speeds up the aging process). Abhishek Bachchan(Big B's real life son) was decent in the scenes in which he didn't have to share with his real life father and Vidya Balan has proved yet again that she is the power house actress we suspected she was when we first met her in 'Parineeta', Paresh Rawal (who co-stars) is given very little to do but handles his scenes very well as Amol's(Junior Bachchan) father.

MAHESH V I went 2 Paa really not knowing what 2 expect. There was a very huge aura created around the character of Auro (Amitabh). I feel the role for Amitabh was a trifle undermined as Auro cud have been portrayed by any above average actors. However the personality of Auro is so great that it dwarfs others, although each 1 of em did a fabulous job to the hilt. If only had Amitabh shown a slight glimpse of his original face as well as his baritone voice it wud have been icing on the cake, but the director had other idea though. By saying this I don't wanna 2 take anything away from it at all. All said & done I reckon this is 1 of the better commercial movies since Deewar & Sholay (1975)
