n my opinion it was a great movie with some interesting elements, even though having some plot holes and the ending probably was just too messy and crammed together, but still fun to watch and not your casual movie that is similar to all other ones.

There is, somehow, an interesting story here, as well as some good acting. There are also some good scenes

Great example of an old-fashioned, pure-at-heart escapist event movie that doesn't pretend to be anything that it's not and has boat loads of fun being its own ludicrous self.

Strong acting helps the film overcome an uncertain premise and create characters that hold our attention absolutely.

The critics are fair, the posibilities to make a better film , using admirable actors, are many. but..., against not the best script, cliches, thin stories, flat characters, it is a nice film. and that is, in fact, the most important thing. because it is the film of Nia Vardalos, saving many scenes, it is occasion for Richard Dreyfuss to give a lovely character and , for viewer, it is a modest opportunity to meet a sketch of Greece, a sort of love story and the effort of team to do reasonable film about vacation and its people. and, maybe, it is enough. for a nice result who, being, at the first sigh only an improvisation, could be defined as version of "My Big Greek Wedding".

Has anyone seen the 1969 movie "If this is Tuesday, This Must Be Belgium?". " My life in Ruins"-what an excellent if corny title- is much the same theme. The film could have been serialised in Mad magazine. No, it is not a great movie but good light entertainment not to be taken seriously. I dwell in Greece and like Nia I am a Greek Canadian, we both speak Greek fluently enough but with a bad accent. I have never taken a bus tour in Greece but have Canadian friends who did and have told me of similar experiences as those shown in the movie. My one and only experience as a tourist on a bus full of Torontonians and Montrealers was in Mexcio in 1977 and it was pretty much the same. A crazy and life threatening driver called Pedro, a funny guide Pepe who realised we all wanted more humour than education about the Mexican ruins etc "Thees was where the thee pipi room was. You know, when the Aztecs they wanna make pipi". My Life in Ruins spares nobody be they Greek, American, Canadian, Spanish, British or Australian. I think it would be hard to appreciate the comedy for anyone who has never visited Greece or ever been part of a tourist bus group and laugh as much as I did. That's the thing about comedies, probably the most difficult of all movie genres; one has to relate to the situation and to the characters. I would put My Life in Ruins on a par with My Big Fat Greek Wedding (though not the later TV show which was a disaster).

This a comedy that shows many examples why comedy should not be like this film.Georgia (Nia Vardalos), an out of luck woman working in Greece as a tour guide unexpectedly finds love with a bearded bus driver named Poupi (pronounced Poopie in English) and friendship with an Jewish American widower, Iriv (Richard Dreyfuss). Like Iriv, every non-Greek characters are embarrassingly stereotyped for example, an Australian couple with sickening accents and always have a can of Fosters beer every time they appear, a snobby British couple with a bratty teenage daughter, a man from Miami in his 20s who easily reminds of you of a party fan from the 1990s and more stereotyped characters.I haven't seen My Big Fat Greek Wedding but i heard it was a sleeper hit and Nia received an Academy Award nomination for her writing should have written this instead of former Simpsons writer, Mike Reiss.I only liked one joke where the Miami man received a shirt from another tourist that says 'I love Greece' in Greek language but later, he was hanging out with two Greek men and Georgia alerted him that the shirt actually says 'Enter at Rear', revealing that the Greek men are stereotypically gay.I don't mind comedies that are meant to be fun and and not serious like Scary Movie or Red Dog (it looks stereotyped but its accurate since its set in the 70s so don't complain) but using the majority of the film with stereotypes isn't the answer to it. I recommend MBFGW than this poorly acted and unoriginal comedy.

As a professional tour guide I think the movie is a very close approach to the real tour experience dealing with all kind of people, problems on the road, hotel reservations, personal matters, etc. I enjoyed watching the movie and I recommend it to all my colleagues and future tour guides.I am planning using the movie to take a test to my students by watching the movie and getting important lessons about guiding and dealing with people. As many other professions, the key is to enjoy what you do, to suit the peoples's interests to the tour script and make traveling a wonderful experience beyond cold facts. Actors did not get any Oscar, but they did a fine job and gave us a fun time, specially to the ones that know the "language" of tourism.
