One day Moomintroll wakes to notice that grey dust is covering everything in the Moominvalley. He runs to ask the philosophical Muskrat if he knows what is happening, who advises him that things tend to look like this before an awful fate coming from the sky hits the Earth. With the help of his father, Moominpappa, Moomintroll and his close friends Sniff and Snufkin build a raft and head out on a challenging journey to the observatory in the Lonely Mountains hoping to find out more from the wise professors there. The friends have to overcome several adversities in order to make it there. When they arrive, they find the professors deep in calculations. They reveal that a comet will reach the Earth in four days, four hours, four minutes and 44 seconds.

Moomins and the Comet Chase Audience Reviews

TrueJoshNight Truly Dreadful Film
Cathardincu Surprisingly incoherent and boring
Dotbankey A lot of fun.
Griff Lees Very good movie overall, highly recommended. Most of the negative reviews don't have any merit and are all pollitically based. Give this movie a chance at least, and it might give you a different perspective.
elisabethm-91892 We decided to check out "Moomins and the Comet Chase" as it was a new release and I remember loving a Moomins book I had as a child! It did not disappoint. When Muskrat explains that mysterious changes in Moominvalley spell doom and gloom, the curious Moomintroll and friends set off to find out the truth from the scientists at the observatory. The characters are delightful, despite the somewhat dark and existential themes. For the most part I think this film can be enjoyed by people of all ages and backgrounds. The messages of striving for knowledge and facing challenges with bravery are universal.Unsurprisingly, the voice cast is superb and give the perfect Moomins tone to the film. The animation style is different than what is commonly seen, which I enjoyed as it gave the movie a unique feel.Overall I would recommend this film to just about anyone!
dbborroughs (contains spoilers) The film is an animated film done in a mixed media style, There are paper cut out characters, some made of cloth and other things. The story has Mr Muskrat telling the young Moomin that a comet is going to hit the earth and kill everyone. His father and mother send him on a river trip to an observatory to talk to the astronomers who hopefully will tell him everything will be okay. Well after many adventures they get to the observatory they find out the comet is coming so they head home so they can be here when it hits. On the way back they see some of the devastation the comet is causing, the sea has dried up, and the locusts are swarming. Will they make it home in time? The film is probably darker than it sounds. It also just sort of stops. The danger is done, roll end credits.I liked the voice cast which includes Max Von Sydow as the narrator(who wouldn't want him to read you a story), Stellan Skarsgard and Mads Mikkelsen. They manage to make it all okay even when you think about it it's really not.I'm told this is based on one of the earlier Moomins stories so it's not as moody as some of the later ones. If this isn't moody I don't know what is.Realesaed in 3D I'm not really sure why. Yes it's nice to see the layers of the animated material, but at the same time the film doesn't scream out 3D.
