Lack of good storyline.

The movie turns out to be a little better than the average. Starting from a romantic formula often seen in the cinema, it ends in the most predictable (and somewhat bland) way.

It really made me laugh, but for some moments I was tearing up because I could relate so much.

I only got in this movie with the name of Iko Uwais, for him I like his other movies like Raid, Raid2 and Headshot. Surprisingly, it is a best movie well in both part i.e. story and action. As me the story is very touching. Astri and Adit seen so innocent. Starting and ending portion is full of emotions. I actually could not stop tearing after seen last scene of Adit was going to school by fare welling his guardian mom and looks like Yuda. Very heart touching moment! Other hand fight sequences are purely feeling as real which give us real action experience. One more surprise to me that Yayan Rhuhian also did an important role here who acted in Red and Red-2 with Uko. Before see the movie I supposed it would be an average but after seeing it became my favourite movie. Especially for silat martial art with emotion. Must watchable for action lovers.

I really enjoyed watching Merantau. This film is about a man named Yuda who left Benaue to go on his Merantau. Yuda started chasing this young boy named Adit because he stole his wallet at a restaurant. Once Yuda got his wallet back, he watched Adit's older sister getting into some trouble. Yuda realized Adit and Astri were good people who has had a very hard life. Throughout the rest of the film, Yuda was trying his hardest to protect Adit and Astri from any type of danger that comes their way. I enjoyed watching this film because I appreciated how thoughtful and protective Yuda was to help others in need. He fought so hard to save Astri and Adit even though he did not know much about them. I thought that Yuda's character in this film showed an immense amount of bravery by sacrificing himself in order to help others. I was extremely confused in the beginning of the film why Yuda was helping people he did not know. Towards the end of this film it is showed why Yuda protected Astri and Adit. Yuda protected Astri and Adit from danger because he is remarkably kind, caring, and is always going to help others.

The plot follows Yuda, a Minangkabau from West Sumatra and an expert in silat. As part of the merantau (journeying) tradition, he leaves his home to seek experience and success. He plans to teach silat to the children of Jakarta. On his bus journey, he meets Eric, a fellow exponent of the art. When he hears of Yuda's plan, Eric becomes sombre, and warns him that the city is quite different from what Yuda is used to, and also that it is difficult to make a living teaching the art. Yuda finds that the address where he was meant to stay has been torn down, so he becomes homeless. His wallet is stolen by a child named Adit. Chasing the thief, Yuda then encounters the thief's sister, Astri, quarrelling with her boss, Johnny. When Johnny begins abusing Astri, Yuda intervenes. Yuda saves Astri but instead of gratitude, he is rebuked because she had become jobless as a result. The next day, Yuda sees Astri once again being beaten by Johnny. He intervenes again only to be beaten at first by his thugs. He quickly recovers and saves Astri from Johnny, while saving her he brutally scars Johnny's boss, Ratger. Ratger's associate, Luc tries to calm down Ratger, but to no avail as Ratger decides to stay in the city to hunt down Astri and Yuda.

There are definitely problems with the pacing of the movie. But overall, I would call this one a success. We have a director that found the lead actor while shooting a documentary about the Indonesian martial art of Pencak Silat. The director scores some major props just by introducing this fighting style that I, and many others probably, have never even heard of. The director is also taking a chance by actually setting up shop in Indonesia. This to me shows he isn't trying to make big budget Hollywood movies but is instead trying something new. The movie could have been better sure, but lets give it up for some originality and freshness I say. The Raid: Redemption and The Raid 2 are both excellent films by the same director and cast of this movie. I for one am looking forward to some new approaches by this squad from Indonesia!
