Lack of good storyline.
Matialth
Good concept, poorly executed.

All of these films share one commonality, that being a kind of emotional center that humanizes a cast of monsters.

Great movie. Not sure what people expected but I found it highly entertaining.

Leaves of Grass explores both the brotherly relationship and the indifference of two twins, one of which is a school professor and the other a marijuana grower. Whilst the premise of this film is good and the start of the film is somewhat well done, it is all down hill from there. Unfortunately nothing happens for the next hour; it is slow paced, unfunny and just plain boring. Whilst Edward Norton pulls off a great double act, nothing else in this film is eye popping nor enjoyable.Leaves of Grass fails in the most obvious way, and that is to tell a story. Whilst the story itself is obvious, nothing seems to happen quick enough for you to get involved in the story. Just another drug dealer film with absolutely no substance.

Whilst there is nothing deep and meaningful here the plot and characters are plausible. The pace is about right as is the mix between humour and action. Thus Leaves of Grass is excellent entertainment (which is what movies are for) and a movie which I felt came close to nearly having it all(plot, comedy, acting and direction) in just the right doses: with one notable exception... the ending. Whilst often the hardest part to write in any story the ending here was neither necessary nor plausible. A prof of Classic's just wouldn't end up trying to hawk his dead brothers grow operation in order to tie up all the loose ends. So whilst it brings the film to a close, it's a bad close that lets down what up to then was pretty plausible. If it were up to me I would just cut the whole crossbow bit out and let the audience go home five minutes earlier and with a far better impression of the movie as a whole.

This was quite the engaging story about crime and the consequences of our choices in life. However, parts of it just didn't seem to click, with a few too many glaring plot holes. I picked this movie based solely on the combination of Edward Norton and Tim Blake Nelson, as I've enjoyed the movies each has previously made. The supporting cast is quite impressive, too. All in all, I enjoyed the movie but it felt like the script should have been tweaked slightly. I thought the drug-dealing brother was played for too much of a simpleton. His mush-mouthed speaking mannerisms were a little off-putting. About halfway through, I had to turn on the subtitles just to make sure I understood him.The contrast with the scholarly twin felt a little overplayed, too. It's hard to fathom such an intelligent person trying to argue philosophy with bad guys intent on killing him. In my opinion, the movie would have been more believable if the outward personas of the twin brothers had not been so radically different. (Spoiler) The orthodontist's role was a bit perplexing, too. When he starts to spiral out of control near the end, his motive was murky. Was he after money, revenge, or both? An extra line or two of dialogue sure would have helped. I like movies that make you think, but this scene (and a few others) had me asking, "Huh?"Please don't let these moderate criticisms scare you away, however. It was a good movie and quite captivating. It just felt like it could have been even better with a small dose of script doctoring.

Watching this movie on Canada's Super channel should be a dead give away that this movie would be a stinker. Super channel shows mostly grade c movies and dramas. Norton took the money and ran with this stinker! I hate it when movies use a name actor to suck you into watching a bad film. Norton has done nothing in the last few years. Norton is hitting has been status. Another Sara what's her name from Buffy the Vampire killer, the Grudge fame has been. The movie tried to be smart and shocking, but ended up coming across as stupid. I could only take so much and watched around a quarter of it. I give "Leaves of Grass" a two out of ten. Stay away from this direct to video stinker.
