Best movie ever!

if their story seems completely bonkers, almost like a feverish work of fiction, you ain't heard nothing yet.

A movie that not only functions as a solid scarefest but a razor-sharp satire.

an admirable work. for story and for its levels. for animation. and for the profound message. for humor and for the reflection of viewer. a lesson. a mission. a choice. all in clothes of charming fairy tale. one of rare films who is magic at whole. without explanations, without chance to define the source of magic. a grand father, his son , his nephew. in a boat. and an amazing discovery. result - a great animation . and a splendid show . remembering old legends, the deep fascination of generation, the links who defines the family, the secret who is essence of every day life, the need of miracles, "La luna" is the perfect choice for entire family. not only for joy or learn about the essence of things. but, maybe, for remember the insignificant details who are roots for each of us. see it !

We saw the movie "Brave" on DVD and this short film, "La Luna", is on the DVD as an extra. We had no idea it was there, or what it was, but I usually enjoy at least browsing the extras to see if I can find anything interesting. My wife usually leaves when I do that, but she stuck around for this one.The good thing about a film short, especially one as brief as this one, is you don't have any chance for character development, you basically see a small slice of something. Here the "slice" is a young boy taking his first boating adventure at night with his dad and grandpa. As the scene begins all we see is the three people in the small boat on the water at night. Then in dramatic fashion the giant moon rises. At that point I commented "look how great the colors are." Then the story really begins. The rest contains SPOILERS so you may not want to read further if you have not seen it, but it is a very pleasant short film. Totally fantasy, but enjoyable to watch. As the moon rises up into the sky the boat stops. The men pull a tall ladder from a hatch in the front of the boat, pointing it towards the moon. They give the boy a small anchor on the end of a rope, he fastens it around his waist, then climbs to the top, almost able to touch the moon. He throws the anchor, and climbs onto the moon, its surface littered with small, yellow glowing star-shaped objects that have accumulated there. Maybe it is supposed to be star dust. The three of them proceed to sweep up the little stars, when a larger one crashes into the surface. The boy climbs to one point, then hits it with a little hammer, and it all crumbles into the smaller ones. They finish their job and climb back down to the boat and we see the moon is no longer "full" but only a crescent where the bright little stars have been swept to.

So, what if it was nominated for Oscars, I believe it had some errors, although not factual but Pixarized errors! The film depicts the expected for some time and then deviates to what is totally unexpected. You can watch it anyway, cause it is only 6 minutes long. But, I would prefer Presto over this! But the film Brave which it was the successor of also failed to score well for me.La Luna is equivocal in itself as it seriously confuses itself whether it is a galactic movie or tradition infested one! Problem? The characters are well endowed. The twist at the midway is also appreciable, but I think the story writing could've been better! Can be watched with a typical Indian family? YES

I have always liked Pixar, their films and short films. La Luna is perhaps not quite on the level of Pixar's best shorts like Geri's Game, Presto, One Man Band and Knick Knack, but it is still a treat and even better than the wonderful Day and Night. It is gorgeously animated, especially the backgrounds, I love how poetic and charming the story is(also one of the more personal stories of any Pixar short film perhaps) and Michael Giacchino's music is some of the most beautiful he's ever done. La Luna could be said to be a departure for Pixar in terms of short films, whereas before there was the traditional emphasis on comedy with visual gags and slapstick action(in a good way that is) the humour is very gentle which suits the personal and poetic tone of the story I feel. As is the case with almost all of Pixar's projects the characters are very endearing and the heart is still there. Overall, a true treat. 9/10 Bethany Cox
