Story: It's very simple but honestly that is fine.

It is amazing how you can build a perfect story, a suspense and a thriller around a simple feature of a gadget!! Beautifully crafted story that was perfectly brought to life by Farhan Akhtar.. A perfect thriller is the one where whatever you are guessing keeps on turning out to be wrong and that's what happens in the movie.. A must watch for those who like 'Thrillers'..

Farhan Akhtar starring as Karthik is our self blaming office boy who is regularly abused verbally and emotionally by his landlord, boss and co- workers and every time he takes it all in on the pretext that he led to his brother's death and this is his penance. Even therapists can't help him. Driven to a corner losing his job, never being noticed by his secret crush and asked to empty his apartment he decides to commit suicide. But then rings the phone bell and the caller is none other than Karthik himself. Initially a movie which looked along the lines of the underdog taking sudden control of his life now has an added mystical element added to it. The caller helps Karthik realize his potential and transform him to a totally different person - confident, secure and easy-going. He gets to be part of the success story at his company, turns the tables on his landlord and gets his dream girl. Everything seems perfect but suddenly some unfortunate events led to Karthik facing the wrath of his caller. The first half of the movie is mostly a romance and unfortunately not one that leaves a great impression. The sudden change in Karthik also seem jumpy at times. The main element of the movie, the phone calls get shadowed by all happening around until the later half of the movie. Once everything is set in place and Karthik is back to question his unknown caller with encouragement from Shonali, Deepika Padukone and his therapist, Sefali Shah. The suspense in the second half is great and explanation for all the so mystical caller is pretty well thought out. The film overall seems to leave a message to the watchers and amaze them with the mysteries of human mind. Farhan Akhtar seems to be turning out as the jack of all trades delivery one hit after another. While his acting may not be the best it is certainly gripping, believable and entertaining. Deepika Padukone did okay but at some points her portrayal of the character does not seems to deliver the tension she is into. Overall though Karthik Calling Karthik is of better ones in Bollywood and I would recommend to anyone wishing for a story with a taste of thrill and reality.

Preceding reviews have probably hashed over details, so I won't retrace those steps. I only say these were stretching roles for Farhan and Deepika, good roles, roles they did well.I can't claim to have seen too many movies about mental illness in my years. Equus, I Didn't Promise You A Rose Garden, Looking for Mr Goodbar, Woh Lamhe are a few. Honestly, I don't think any were done better than this movie. They played it like a thriller, but the mystery turned out to be mundane. People finding success lethal is a familiar story. A couple of tricks in the plot were a little wobbly, I won't specify what they are. But the final explanation wasn't terribly improbable. Fact is that many wrongs have been done unknown to the person who did them.I forgot that Shefali Shaw was in the cast, so when they first show her, my reaction was "Juhi!" She absolutely looked like Juhi in 13 Dewarein. But for many movies now, I've really appreciated Shefali, so it wasn't too disappointing that it wasn't Juhi.So anyway, I rank it 8 of 10. It was ambitious and the principals showed themselves well. So wonderful to see Deepika in such unlikely roles.

Despite being a different movie and a brave attempt, i cannot say that movie entertained me. The acting was satisfactory but nothing exciting, In an attempt to give movie feel of REALITY, the the plot looses itself many times in movie, many scenes were unnecessary and concept is not worth making a movie about....Farhan akhtar who is more then capable director with movies like 'DIL CHAHTA HAI' under his belt is expected to make better movies....and the last scene of movie makes sure that its a typical Hindi movie where hero always survives, the movie would have left greater impact, if karthik would have died...(and the phone would have rung again......at 5AM ;) )
