Just Visiting Audience Reviews

Linbeymusol Wonderful character development!
Phonearl Good start, but then it gets ruined
Taraparain Tells a fascinating and unsettling true story, and does so well, without pretending to have all the answers.
Cheryl A clunky actioner with a handful of cool moments.
Johan Dondokambey The story has a rather 'ancient' theme of time travel, made famous by the classic movie Back to the Future. As is with the classic, this movie is also a comedy. Yet I praise the amount humor served in this movie. The humor is also very laughable thus enjoyable. And also, despite the potential of being distant culture wise, the movie bridges the culture shock humor by depicting enough scenes and narration at the medieval era to make the later humors clearer and thus more enjoyable. What I like even more is the fact that the main character is played by Jean Reno, who is indeed a great name in action movies. And he did quite a funny appearance in this movie. Christina Applegate did just enough to complete the story balance. Another name worth mentioning is Christian Clavier, who also had a part in writing the original story and screenplay. He too did a great job at being funny here.
mlktrout I vastly enjoyed this film. I love movies about accidental time travel, and this one was more fun than most in the situations the two medieval men -- a knight and his squire -- found themselves in. Jean Reno, who seems usually to play heavier roles, shows great comedic flair, as does his squire, Christian Clavier. Christina Applegate was warm and sympathetic as the confused, distant descendant of the knight, and Matt Ross was a boo/hiss-worthy bad guy. Oh, and one mustn't forget Malcolm MacDowell, who really steals the show as the low-budget, eccentric wizard who messes up one spell after another. The movie had some great laughs and even a couple of heartwarming, tender moments. I was sorry when it ended. I can't fathom why it has such low scores here, but trust me as a longtime moviegoer, with a collection of movies from the silents to the recent, this one is worth the time to watch.
Gordon-11 This film is about a medieval royalty and his servant who got accidentally transported to the 21st century, causing hilarious cultural shocks.Though "Just Visiting" appears silly and cheesy, it does have the merit of being insightful to the contrast between modern day life and medieval life. The technology that we now take for granted simply does not exist just a century ago, let alone eight centuries ago. The cultural shocks are indeed hilarious, and provides squeaky clean laughs for the whole family. I truly enjoy watching "Just Visiting". I will be recommending my friends to watch this!
LCShackley Many of the comments here are the usual gripes about remakes. Well, I've never seen "Les Visiteurs" so I'm just looking at this film on its own, and I must say that I was greatly entertained.Of course, it's a lightweight plot, but Reno and Clavier sink their teeth into the time-travel jokes and manage to be endearing as well as thoroughly crazy. (Especially Clavier, whose scenes among the rich folks reminded me a lot of the Three Stooges' many dinners with the snobs.) Christina Applegate is sincere and appealing, her boyfriend and his bimbo are appalling, and the Chicago scenery is GREAT! (I have to admit my prejudice in that regard, having lived there for many years.) Considering that the remake was done by the men who made the original film, what's the problem? Think of what it would have been like if it starred Adam Sandler and David Spade, for instance. Zut alors!
