I Sell the Dead Audience Reviews

Diagonaldi Very well executed
GazerRise Fantastic!
FuzzyTagz If the ambition is to provide two hours of instantly forgettable, popcorn-munching escapism, it succeeds.
SeeQuant Blending excellent reporting and strong storytelling, this is a disturbing film truly stranger than fiction
meddlecore I sell The Dead is a mild horror comedy with a great concept, well known cast and nice style...but as far as the story goes...it falls a little flat.It stars Dominic Monaghan (Albert), Ron Pearlman (Father Duffy) & Larry Fesseden (Willie). Willie & Albert are a couple of "ghouls" (read: duo of gravediggers), whose livelihoods require they steal corpses (which they then turn around and sell to mad doctors and scientists and the like). The plot begins to develop after Willie meets the guillotine in the opening sequence. Albert lays out the story for us, as he is being interrogated by Father Duffy, after being falsely accused of murder.Through a series of flashbacks Albert recounts how he got into corpse harvesting business as a youngin- after being taken on as an apprentice by Willie as a boy.He goes into detail about how he was initiated into the tricks of the trade; and the type of competition they often had to face.Their main competitors are the Murphy Gang, a family-based gang of absolute cutthroats, who command both fear and respect from both the duo and general populace. Word on the street is that you better be wary around this crew- as a single misplaced look or comment could very well render you dead and harvested. It turns out that the dead aren't the only thing these corpse thieves are after though...there is an even more lucrative market for the undead: zombies, vampires, and such. But as the community starts to crack down on this dark practice- and resources begin to dwindle- competition between the two crews heats up to murderous levels. All the ghouls are at each other's throats, trying to make a buck in exceedingly creative ways. This puts them at odds with one another and leads up to the relatively weak twist that concludes the film. While stylistically I Sell The Dead has an appealing comic book style...overall the story is kind of meh. The undead characters are especially lame (way too pg), which is pretty disappointing...cause they look cool. There are some entertaining moments in the film, but the twist at the end- while not totally predictable- left something to be desired. When all is said and done, however, it's not overtly terrible...but it's not particularly memorable either. A fun watch, but not one of the better horror comedies out there.5.5 out of 10.
zif ofoz If you bother to read any of the other reviews here you will discover that this movie is an odd adventure story flashback that you will love or hate. It's got a cheap look but that look is consistent start to finish and especially in the coloration. Dialog is clever and characterizations spot on. Authur and Willy find themselves mixed into laughable and dangerous situations but always come out 'just fine'.This is great choice for anyones party movie to get the guest talking and laughing. And then you will want to watch it again to calm that hang-over!!!
HumanoidOfFlesh "I Sell the Dead" is a horror comedy about a duo of sympathetic grave-robbers.Grimes(Larry Fessenden)and Blake(Dominic Monaghan)rob graves and sell the corpses in Victorian England.Things change when they unearth a body that refuses to stay dead."I Sell the Dead" is narrated by Blake who is waiting in prison for the date with Mrs.Guillotine.The monk played by Ron Perlman listens to his last confession.Pretty funny low-budget horror comedy with Gothic atmosphere and few lovely twists. The characters are entertaining and the film oozes of the E.C. Comics vibe.I am not a fan of horror comedies, but this one kept me quite entertained.6 grave-robbers out of 10.
drew petersen I give it a 9 just for the fact that whoever made this film took a B movie budget and turned it in to a better movie than a lot of the A movies out there. Very enjoyable and satisfying. It was humorous and gross and scary and fun. The characters were great. The story was great. It was eerie and entertaining. I bought it as a bootleg for two dollars and I have watched it 4 times or so. I think that the writing was excellent and imaginative. It was not meant to be profound or artsy or anything of the such. Just a good old fashioned, well shot, well acted, very entertaining, gory horror film that delivers the classic gross-outs and tale telling of the past in a new age format. Good job!
