Breakinger A Brilliant Conflict
Whitech It is not only a funny movie, but it allows a great amount of joy for anyone who watches it.
Phillipa Strong acting helps the film overcome an uncertain premise and create characters that hold our attention absolutely.
creddick-95744 Hairspray is such a fun musical! Not only does it have fantastic music and a great cast it has a very important message. It really speaks to anyone who has ever struggled with body image issues. It shows that no matter your size you can do whatever you put your mind to, even when most people doing that thing look differently. It also shows women that we can do anything, even in an age where women couldn't do much for a living. The musical is also so inclusive. It expresses a mentality that race does not change the kind of person you are and that we are truly all equal. Just wow, it's hard to make a fantastic show that is so good at handling big issues.
Soccersizzl103 The movie overall was very entertaining and fun to watch. I enjoyed the singing and dancing, it was very catchy and had me laughing at times. I chose to watch this movie for a movie assignment for my APUSH class because I knew it would be upbeat and exciting and Zac Efron was it in so that was a plus. What I enjoyed the most was how the movie depicted how the white people were slowly accepting blacks. It was absolutely amazing to see the blacks and whites dancing together at the end with the crowd cheering. It shows how segregation had come a long way from the past and was leading to brighter futures for black people. The way the black characters held themselves strong and unwavering in the film, was inspiring that even though they were being denied rights and being treated unjustly, they didn't let it bring them down. A lesson to us that even in our deepest struggles, we can't let them bring us down or hinder us from achieving our goals in life. Enjoy the film!
melissaprewasnicc Hairspray was an uplifting movie with ideas of acceptance of others. The main character, Tracy Turnblad fights throughout the movie about how she thinks black people should be treated equally on television. This reflects the ideas of the civil rights movement and the peaceful protests used during that time period. In addition, Tracy is a character throughout the movie that represents the need for acceptance because of her weight. The dancers on television are not accepting of her because of her weight and she proves them wrong. The movie is entertaining with its music and humor. A character that stands out is the mother, played by John Travolta. He takes on a female part as a larger woman and Tracy's mother. The character brings comic relief to the movie. The theme of the movie is serious, but there is also an idea of hope and acceptance of others in the future.
Firestryker16 Hairspray was an overall great movie. The writer used a light-hearted dance show to shed some light on the topic of integration within Baltimore in the 60's. The story revolves around a white teenager who has witnessed the opportunities that were taken away from African-Americans at this time strictly due to the color of their skin. These African- Americans were not allowed to integrate with the white teenagers and dance on The Corny Collins show together. Instead, they were given Negro day to dance and even this right was eventually taken away from them. The main character, Tracy did not believe in this segregation so she joined them in an effort to desegregate. By the end of the movie, the African- Americans were integrated into the TV show. It was interesting to watch the fight for equality in this aspect of life for the African-Americans of the 1960's. It was a powerful example of segregation and the fact that it was shown in the entertainment industry makes the movie and the topic more interesting. All around a highly recommended movie that mixes history with entertainment.
