Golden Goddess of Rio Beni Audience Reviews

ReaderKenka Let's be realistic.
SpecialsTarget Disturbing yet enthralling
Huievest Instead, you get a movie that's enjoyable enough, but leaves you feeling like it could have been much, much more.
Cheryl A clunky actioner with a handful of cool moments.
ma-cortes This Spanish/France/German/Brazil co-production results to be a simple , plain and clean fun . Amusing movie , plenty of action , thrills , colorful cinematography , lush landscapes , adequate score ; all meld together under Eugenio Martin's so-so direction . A lighthearted romp for kids and teenagers about jungle adventures , concerning an expedition looking for a person who has presumably crashed somewhere in the Amazon . This thrilling film packs adventures , emotion , fights and marvelous scenes from deep rainy forest that generate a lot of surprises and illusion . One of the most amazing entertaining film ever produced in the 6os dealing with Amazon adventures . A pilot of a jetline airline is lost in the Amazons , in Brazil , being disappeared under strange circumstances . Then , two friends go out to find him , undergoing a hazardous voyage to find clues of their colleague . As the expedition is led by an oil company pilot (Pierre Brice) who puts together a suspicious bunch to help him in his search for a fellow colleague . As the couple joins forces with a motley group (Harald Juhnke , Hans von Borsody , Gil Delamare) whose true objective is to find the ¨Golden Goddess of Rio Beni¨ , a golden sculpture adored and strongly protected by the natives . The bunch is formed by a misfit team as a drunk , a pair of villains , a boat captain and a woman (Emma Penella) . All of them delve into the Amazonian rainforest in search of the pilot . They suffer 10000 dangers , being harassed , attacked and abducted by aboriginal tribes on the edge of the rain forest , and confronting each other . This exciting film contains thrills , emotion , hard-boiled characters , adventure and action scenes of infighting between violent tribes that generate a lot of entertainment . It is a simple and predictable adventure spectacle , ordinarily directed by a Spanish craftsman , Eugenio Martin . Here stands out the beauty Gillian Hills , including her gorgeous attractive with Sexciting scenes never before shown , never be made again . The film is well starred by Pierre Brice , the unforgettable ¨Winnetou¨ , a role who repeated in a lot of pictures , this excellent character to be continued in a TV series . Brice was descendant of old French nobility and considered to be one of the most famous and most loved actors in Germany and in the other countries in Eastern Europe , thanks to this role and starred several pictures as charming Indian Winnetou . He even received First Class Medal as one the most popular Frenchmen in Germany . In 1962, the German producer Horst Wendlandt searched for an actor who should play the Native American chief and got to know Brice at the Berlin Film Festival . He got the role and portrayed "Winnetou" in ten more movies but also performed other genres . ¨Die Goldene Göttin Vom Rio Beni" or "Golden Goddess of Rio Beni" or "La Diosa De oro" or ¨Duelo En El Amazonas¨ displays an evocative as well as atmospheric musical score by Georges Garvarentz . Glamorous and lush cinematography by Manuel Hernandez who photographs wonderfully the Amazon jungle , obviously filmed under difficult conditions on location . Shot in Ultra-scope and Eastmancolor , which is at once visually distinctive but also rather flattening .Enough Budget for a multi-country production formed by Production Companies , Atlântida Cinematográfica , Comptoir Français Du Film Production , Procusa and the powerful German company : Constantin Film Produktion . The motion picture was decently directed by Eugenio Martin or Gene Martin , but it has some flaws and gaps . He's a good professional filmmaking from the 6os , though sparsely scattered and giving various entertaining as well as commercial films . He's a horror/mystery movies expert : ¨Hypnosis¨ , ¨A candle for the devil¨ , ¨The fourth Mrs Anderson¨ ; Spaghetti/Paella Western : ¨Requiem for a gringo¨ , ¨Pancho Villa¨ , ¨The ugly ones¨ , ¨Bad man's river¨ and adventures : ¨Golden Goddess of Rio Beni¨, ¨Captain from Toledo¨, ¨Conqueror of Maracaibo¨. Martin also wrote/directed some TV series as ¨Juanita La Larga¨ , ¨Cervantes¨, and ¨Visperas¨ . Rating : Acceptable adventure movie , 5/10 , well worth watching . This action/adventure Pic that commits viewers to sit chewing their fingernails for more than ninety minutes will appeal to Eurotrash fans .
bensonmum2 Jim (Pierre Brice), an oil company pilot working in Brazil, puts together a rag-tag bunch to help him in his search for a fellow pilot and friend who has presumably crashed somewhere in the Amazon. The group he's put together includes an alcoholic who happens to be an expert on native languages, a couple of crooks/thugs, and a less than honest boat captain. He uses a tale of native gold (the titular Golden Goddess) as bait for the journey. Along the way, the un-merry band encounters snakes, traps, friendly natives, unfriendly natives, and each other. Will Jim find his friend? Will anyone find the Golden Goddess? Will anyone be left alive at the end? Golden Goddess of Rio Beni is not a great film, but it is fun enough if you're a fan of Euro-genre films from the 60s/70s. Not knowing much about the movie before I started watching, I had hoped for an Italian film. I could tell almost instantly I was watching a German movie instead. No offense intended and I realize this is a terribly broad generalization, but I usually find German films cheaper, darker, and less "fun" (for lack of a better word) than their Italian counterparts. And that's the case here. It's not as good as it might have been. Pierre Brice is good, but I could name a dozen Italian actors working in the 60s who would have been better. Still, Brice does an admirable job of holding the group and the film together. His fight scene with the boat captain (his name escapes me) was especially well done. The film really picks up when the group encounters the headhunters in the final act. They are very well portrayed and convincing. I was immediately reminded of any number of 70s era cannibal films I've seen. While nowhere near as shocking as anything you'll see in a movie like Cannibal Holocaust, there is a similar vibe to the headhunter scenes in Golden Goddess of Rio Beni. Really good stuff.
dbborroughs B- movie trash that is the sort of thing to watch at about 3am. The plot has a pilot and some friends going into the amazon to try and find a friend who disappeared. Along the way they pick up some miscreants who become convinced that there is a temple filled with gold along the way. Running into various tribes one of the band becomes accidentally engaged to the blonde haired daughter of one of the chiefs. Going further into the jungle they run across head hunters and treachery as the party turns on each other. Its a German jungle adventure that is very much related to the African films such as Trader Horn. Its a popcorn movie pure and simple. Worth a look. (Sinster Cinema's print seems to be of a black and white copy of a color film)
