George and the Dragon Audience Reviews

2hotFeature one of my absolute favorites!
Phonearl Good start, but then it gets ruined
KnotStronger This is a must-see and one of the best documentaries - and films - of this year.
filippaberry84 I think this is a new genre that they're all sort of working their way through it and haven't got all the kinks worked out yet but it's a genre that works for me.
supermaggie Finally! Finally a princess with brains and a mind of her own (and not only set on princes), independent, brave, with principles, who treats the dragons as they should be treated - as wonderful, dignified (admittedly, CGI-) animals, the monsters are not dragons but humans. Funny, suspenseful, heartwarming, and filled with great cameos (Val Kilmer, Joan Plowright, Stefan Jürgens), way to go for the fairy tale genre!! And even if he does not portray the most likable character of his career in this movie, but it is always good to see Patrick Swayze (no, I am not a Dirty Dancing fan, but Swayze did much more than that and a lot of good stuff among it)! So if you want good and educative entertainment for little and adult viewers alike, check this movie out!
SnoopyStyle George (James Purefoy) is returning home after the Crusade. He parts way with his Moorish friend Tarik (Michael Clarke Duncan) in France. Tarik encounters and beats legendary mercenary El Cabillo. Tarik becomes the new El Cabillo. George returns to his village to settle down. His father is an old comrade of King Edgaar (Simon Callow) and joins the quest to find his missing daughter Princess Lunna (Piper Perabo). Lunna is betrothed to the arrogant Garth (Patrick Swayze). Lunna was taken by a dragon who dies after laying an egg. She stays to guard the egg against the local Picts. This is a loosely reworked version of the medieval tale of Saint George and the Dragon. This is an odd unwieldy mix. It's violent but it's not good enough for any adults. The special effects and sets are lower quality. The action is not that good. I doubt kids would like this either. It turns jokey when George meets Lunna. It tries to be an action rom-com but it's tiresome.
VallyNicky This has to be one of my favorite movies. Certainly my favorite James Purefoy movie. In fact it was thanks to this movie that I became a fan of Purefoy, this and 'A Knight's Tale'. Yes, it is a bit geared more for a younger audience, but as I don't watch rated R movies myself this suited me just fine. Anyone who has seen the Princess Bride can't miss the blatant reference. Still a good movie and as for Purefoy fans it's one of his best. The really great things is he gets the limelight and he actually plays the good guy. Please don't let the discouraging reviews keep you from watching this movie. I thought it was wonderful. Not too much gore, not too much cursing (if there were any). It's the perfect family movie, just enough action to keep the boys interested and just enough romance to keep the girls interested. The best part, there's a happy ending.
Andy V A brave knight goes on a quest to find a missing princess, who -how surprising- is very stubborn but also very beautiful. He finds himself helping her to protect the egg of a dragon, living in constant hesitation between destroying it and continuing to protect it. Throw in a greedy prince and a bunch of villains and you have a nice romantic and adventurous fairy tale. This movie was nice to watch and enjoy, but just as easily forgotten. In terms of special effects, you cannot compare it to other dragon movies like Dragonheart or Reign of Fire. The storyline was however quite entertaining. A happy end tends to leave you behind with a smile no matter how bad the acting or how lousy the costumes. So I guess that's why I appreciated this movie in a weird kind of way.
