The performances transcend the film's tropes, grounding it in characters that feel more complete than this subgenre often produces.

Easily the biggest piece of Right wing non sense propaganda I ever saw.

It is neither dumb nor smart enough to be fun, and spends way too much time with its boring human characters.

All of these films share one commonality, that being a kind of emotional center that humanizes a cast of monsters.

I remember seeing this when it came out and recently revisiting it, not only is is still good, but I think it only got better with age; which is a rarity for any film. The cast is great and the characters or complimentary to one another. Plus it is by far Sigourney Weaver's hottest role!

And the jokes still hold today as they did nearly 20 years ago. It's a travesty a Galaxy Quest 2 was never made before Rickman passed sadly, especially in a world where Grown Ups and Scary Movies keep getting sequels. But what sets this parody apart from so many other attempted films that parody other sources, is that instead of just following the source material, Galaxy Quest creates it's own story completely. As well, the casting is possibly the best for a large ensemble comedy film ever created. Each character seriously just works perfectly. It's hard to imagine anyone else in almost any of their roles. Hell, even the special effects still live up to today. And who knows, maybe we can still get our sequel in Alan's honor some day.

This is a remarkable, intelligent, and very funny film -- and you don't have to be a former Trekkie to enjoy it. And -- once having seen it -- you can be dropped into any scene a decade later -- any scene -- and it will be just as good as the first time you saw it. And it has a story to tell. Tim Allen is terrific -- but so is every member of the cast.

This movie should be in the canon of movie classics, at least in the sci-fi genre. So many great character actors with an interesting (if rather derivative plot -- but it's a spoof with a twist, so that should be expected). Tim Allen nails the main character and so many others, Alan Rickman as others have mentioned, and Sigourney Weaver in a comical tone, deliver fine performances. It's worth watching multiple times as you're bound to have missed something along the way. Ultimately, it's a feel-good sci-fi without cursing (at least in the expurgated current version) and hardly any gore and a minimum of violence. The visual effects don't look wildly dated either. A great movie!
