Frankenfish Audience Reviews

Ploydsge just watch it!
CrawlerChunky In truth, there is barely enough story here to make a film.
TrueHello Fun premise, good actors, bad writing. This film seemed to have potential at the beginning but it quickly devolves into a trite action film. Ultimately it's very boring.
TaryBiggBall It was OK. I don't see why everyone loves it so much. It wasn't very smart or deep or well-directed.
WakenPayne I sat down and watched this movie because... while I didn't like movies such as Sharknado, they entertain me enough to just laugh at the idiocy of it all. Frankenfish was meant to be serious... Frankenfish, that was meant to be taken seriously. The plot of course is your standard "something in the swamp, people have to kill it." type thing while also hunters are going around trying to hunt whatever is in the water. Okay this does make way for a decent set-up and it does try and build suspense but there is just one problem, They called their movie Frankenfish. This means we expect either a zombie fish on a rampage or a fish genetically altered on a rampage. So all this build-up is for nothing other than time filler. The only thing I kind of liked in this movie is the odd funny attack/death scenes. Think something can top that guy chainsawing the shark in half in Sharknado? Well you should wait and see the way the final Frankenfish dies.Although with this said there isn't anything else that holds the film together. The effects are bad, the acting is amateur and the rest of it is a chore to sit through. So if you want to see a movie with a title as stupid as Frankenfish for a laugh then this probably isn't for you but if you just have 80 minutes to pass over with this as your only DVD option, then this could be worth a look.
TheLittleSongbird I was not expecting to even like Frankenfish, but I did. The story is ridiculous on the whole, in the script there is a sea of corniness and eye-rolling cheesiness amid the odd sprinkle of wit, the characters are on the annoying stereotypical side and some of the effects are cheap. Despite all this, I did enjoy Frankenfish. The editing was not as choppy as I had anticipated and some of the locations are great. There is enough suspense and tense fun to make up for the ridiculousness of the story, the fish although not great in design(though I have seen far worse) are menacing and great to watch and while the lead is uncharismatic the acting is reasonably good. On the whole, not great, but I sort of liked it. 6/10 Bethany Cox
miami1925 Frankenfish is probably one of syfy's worst movies to date. There is absolutely no plot what so ever, except for the "mutant fish killing people" if that can be considered a plot. A man is found horribly mutilated, investigators are sent in, and are killed off one by one. Most within a 20 min time period. The filming is mostly in the dark and makes it hard to see everything, especially the few shots of the fish in the water, it looks mostly like a blob. Also, most of the main characters are killed randomly and very quickly in one or two scenes. The characters are very poorly developed as well. The fish themselves are never filmed for more than 5 seconds, due to the horrible special effects. Just another Syfy creature feature (I created a profile JUST to review this movie, if that tells you anything)
Paul Andrews Frankenfish is set in Louisiana where medical examiner Sam Rivers (Troy Kittles) is called in by a local small town Sheriff to investigate the mangled remains of John Crankton, after a quick look at Crankton's body Sam thinks it might be some sort of animal attack so along with biologist Mary Callahan (China Chow) from the department of wildlife & fisheries he travels up river into the deep swamp land where the body was found. There they talk with Crankton's wife Gloria (Donna Biscoe) who says that a curse is destroying the swamp however Sam & Mary quickly discover that giant, genetically created mutant Snakehead fish have been killing & eating anything that moves & our heroes find themselves on the menu...This made-for-TV creature feature was directed by Mark Dippe & having heard pretty good things about it I expected a decent monster flick & it's certainly good but it's not great. The script by Simon Barrett & Scott Clevenger rolls out the usual clichés like the now standard genetically created giant killer creature, some sort of official who gets caught up in the situation, an isolated location with no means of escape, a big game hunter trying to track & kill them for sport & lots of faceless potential victims. The character's are a little better than usual in this type of film, the dialogue is OK, there are some humorous moments & there's a fair amount of incident. It moves along at a nice enough pace although the first half does drag a little at times, there are some silly moments with various character's doing stupid things but if you just take Frankenfish for what it is, a fun creature feature, then I think it will keep you entertained for 80 odd minutes if not much else.Director Dippe does alright here, despite what was probably a low budget & being made-for-TV Frankenfish is surprisingly well made & looks like a proper theatrical release. There's some good gore, someone is bitten in half, there's some mangled mutilated bodies, some guts, there's a fair amount of blood splatter & a cool decapitation. The CGI computer effects vary, some are OK & while none could be described as terrible some look pretty fake at times. I wouldn't say it's scary or has much of an atmosphere but that's not the way I think it was made. With a supposed $3,000,000 budget this was actually quite well funded, it's certainly well made on location in Alabama although for that sort of money I'd have liked to have seen slightly better CGI computer effects. The acting is alright from no-one I've ever seen or heard of before.Frankenfish is a pretty good creature feature & much better than the usual rubbish the Sc-Fi Channel churn out but it's still no masterpiece by any stretch of the imagination. Good but not great.
