Flight of the Living Dead Audience Reviews

RipDelight This is a tender, generous movie that likes its characters and presents them as real people, full of flaws and strengths.
Rio Hayward All of these films share one commonality, that being a kind of emotional center that humanizes a cast of monsters.
Beulah Bram A film of deceptively outspoken contemporary relevance, this is cinema at its most alert, alarming and alive.
Haven Kaycee It is encouraging that the film ends so strongly.Otherwise, it wouldn't have been a particularly memorable film
paulclaassen Bad, very bad...from the dialogue to the acting to the effects - as expected. The film offers nothing new to the genre, just a screaming, squealing gore fest.
metalrage666 I usually love zombie flicks, the great ones, the good ones, even the adequate ones are worth it for a few looks and a few laughs, but Flight of the Living Dead turns out to be little more than a decent concept executed rather poorly. Basically an altered malaria "virus" (which is impossible for reasons I won't bore you with here), has been engineered to reanimate dead organs and therefore dead people as well, so the doctors who concocted this abomination of science are traveling on a commercial flight to Paris with their dirty little secret locked up in the cargo hold watched over by a machine gun toting lunatic in a bio- hazard suit. After some turbulence shakes loose the suspect cargo and injures the guard, a woman bursts out complaining of pain and suffering disorientation. It seems that this woman is a fellow doctor who's been infected with this retro virus and gets gunned down for her trouble. The virus brings her back to life, she takes out the wounded guard and the rest of the movie writes itself. After the 2 doctors go down to investigate the situation and are killed for their efforts by the now 2 zombies, 2 become 4 and pretty soon there's pandemonium on board as others are bitten or half eaten until the living dead have all but taken over. The 4 remaining survivors manage to crash land the plane just outside of Vegas along with a handful of zombies who get loose and start making their way to the city where the film ends, thereby setting it up for a sequel. This is a fairly abysmal movie even by zombie standards mainly because movie makers still don't appear to have a clue as to how planes actually work or how pressurized cabins react to sudden variances. Usually zombie films aren't known for their accuracy but there's this idea of "well zombies aren't real, so why bother with facts like physics". Another annoying factor is this new breed of zombie that manifested itself in the classic remakes or re- imaginings, where they're all super strong, super fast and hyper aggressive. The movie tries to explain away these traits by saying that the inhuman qualities are the result of the virus but after seeing the same fast paced bloodlust in every zombie/virus film of the last 15-20 years, enough is enough. Call me old fashioned but I prefer my zombies slow and silent. In a confined, claustrophobic space like a plane, slow zombies would have created a better atmosphere of suspense and tension. Zombies leaping through the air like acrobats is just stupid. Aside from all that, there are a couple of interesting and amusing scenes, but the clichéd use of eclectic passengers detracts from focusing on what little story there is and instead just broadcasts a series of lame setups everyone saw coming. Why does every plane have to have a prisoner in handcuffs? Or a couple that just can't seem to wait to get it on in the bathroom. And in this case, it's a cheating couple, so you know they'll end up as food. I've also never known a plane to have crawlspaces big enough to hide in, or big enough for zombies to grab you and drag you through the bathroom mirror. You can't open an aircraft door in a pressurized cabin by simply flipping the handle and the effects of doing that are immediate, there's no build up of vacuum, if you're standing there, you're gone. The number of passengers seems to constantly change, guns used are never reloaded, all the zombies can't wait to sink their teeth into the exposed flesh of any random passenger, except for when the script calls for them to just stand there growling for several seconds in front of a remotely recognisable actor so they can get shot in the head instead. What decent and amusing scenes there are, end up being overshadowed by the excessive use of frenzied camera movements. Be prepared to pause and rewind a lot if you want to try and catch everything that's going on at once. While some have claimed that this is an underrated entrant into the zombie family, I just can't agree with that sentiment. This is OK enough for a late night horror flick but the production value, and effects are far too lame to make this fully enjoyable and 5 minutes after it ends you'll barely be able to remember most of it.
bowmanblue Okay, so pretty much any zombie-fan will know about George A Romero's classic 'Night of the Living Dead.' There have been many imitations. Here we have one that goes as far as to try and rhyme its title for added effect. The result – so-so.I'll start by saying that 'FLIGHT of the Living Dead' is no classic. Any zombie movie today always has to fight to get noticed among the dozens of undead offerings we find released straight to DVD. So... what has this one got that makes it worth the watch? The answer... no much really. But that doesn't mean it's all together bad. The title alone basically tells you everything you need to know about the plot. A plane. A toxic outbreak on board. Zombies. Before I watched it I did kind of wonder how they could drag out a film set in such a confined space to an hour and a half – even the biggest jumbo jets would soon find every last inch crammed by flesh-eating ghouls pretty quickly. However, the film-makers have done a reasonable job of making things believable. The first half of the film introduces us to the characters (and reinforces what little plot there is). Basically, the plane is populated by stereotypes. You will probably guess the fate of most of them, but there are a couple which actually stand out as people you'd root for (ironically, one of the best characters is a prisoner who's on his way to jail!). And that's enough for this sort of film. It basically scrapes through on character traits. The plot is wafer-thin and the gore is nothing that you haven't seen before.Like I said, it's no classic, but if you're in the mood for (yet another) zombie film and you're in a forgiving mood, then this one might fill an hour and a half of your life. For me, the only part I really rolled my eyes at were when the undead – somehow – managed to 'punch through' the floor of the plane in order to climb out of the 'hold' and get into the cabin to feast on the passengers. Next time I'm on a plane I'll be a little worried when I'm taking my seat if I think the floor beneath my feet could give way so easily!
darklydreamingrahu If you are a fan of the zombie genre, this one will entertain you. Grab a bowl of popcorn and suspend your disbelief to enjoy the over-the-top zombies-on-a-plane one-note plot device. The characters are actually fairly likable and the special effects are well done for a low budget film. Some of the zombie mechanics are inconsistent but who cares? This one isn't meant to be frightening or even thrilling. It succeeds in being claustrophobic and action-packed. The zombies are very killable and make for an entertaining romp. Watch this while in a good mood and ready for a decent guilty pleasure laugh. So it's not the best zombie movie available. There's no deep societal messages or solid character development. There is, however, lots of zombies, guns, blood, and zombie sound effects to peak your inner zombie. Watch this if you are a fan of the zombie genre. 6/10
