Very well executed

In truth, there is barely enough story here to make a film.

This is a coming of age storyline that you've seen in one form or another for decades. It takes a truly unique voice to make yet another one worth watching.

It's simply great fun, a winsome film and an occasionally over-the-top luxury fantasy that never flags.

Melanie Wood (Leah Pipes) is told by her older sister Crystal (Kristin Cavallari) about an urban legend of a haunted railroad crossing. A bus full of kids supposedly were killed by a train at that site. Melanie rejoins her family in their new home after a stint in rehab for heroine. She's the only who can see a mysterious girl who turns out to be Mary (Sally Kirkland)'s dead sister Julie. Doug (Lou Diamond Phillips) is the school counselor. This is a low budget horror that suffers from a lack of vision. The kills are not that good. The killer isn't that cool. I like Leah Pipes and Andrew Lawrence is a good douche bag. The other actors are not so good. It's a fine ghost story but Harry Basil is a limited horror director.

Caught this from a movie channel. I don't usually expect much from a low budget horror film, but once in a while there is a gem in between. This ones not a gem. Still, even bad ones are usually worth a look. The story starts off quite interesting. We have a train accident where a bus full of children get killed and a teenager who is back from rehab starts getting messages from the dead. The bus crash in the beginning is indeed horrific and the fact that the leading actress is back from rehab after od'ing from hard drugs was new for me. I'm guessing the fact that she was dead for a while should have had more meaning on the story (think of Flatliners), but she didn't seem the only one who got clues from the dead. The acting is not bad, it's actually quite good. Some of the characters are annoying, but the performances are pretty good if you consider the rest of the movie. Surprisingly, by far the worst performance comes from Lou Diamond Phillips. Scenes with him alone are downright cringe worthy. The movie is a mixture of a ghost story and a slasher and it doesn't seem to know which one it eventually is. The slasher part doesn't work, at least to me the victims seemed pretty random, but I may not have been too sharp while watching. Also people didn't seem to care that their fellow students have gone missing, or if teachers were getting slaughtered in their office. As a ghost story it's better, but still does not deliver. It just lacks the logic of a well unfolding story and the "twist" in the end is not very memorable. There are lots of small goofs or other details that distracted me. Would anyone have his ex-wife named "ex-wife" on his cellphone, for any other reason than for the audience to know the ex- wife is calling? Also the very ending, I don't know if you could call it an epilogue, is somewhat out of tune with the rest of the movie. It's worth mentioning that this is the first horror movie I've seen to use a type face similar to comic sans in the opening credits!

I love cheesy horror flicks. I love horror flicks in general and I seek them out like crazy. Thank goodness for Netflix who brought a whole host of these horror flicks into my life. There is nothing in the horror genre harder than trying to create something unique and original but still keep all the necessary components to the genre. The film does all this so I have to give it props. Certainly they don't use a large genre and they even have a character played by reality TV Star Kristin Cavallari who will most certainly make people roll their eyes and laugh but you know what? She does a darn good job. The cast all take their roles seriously and I think that's important too! The film has ghosts, mystery, terror and even a great twist to the entire thriller that keeps you watching moment by moment. Fingerprints is absolutely worth seeing and it isn't even because of cheesiness or being campy because the film actually pulls off a level of seriousness. The story and the cast (especially the lead actress) will lead you through the film at a perfect pace and really keep you riveted from beginning to end. If you love ghost stories this one is aces!! Leah Pipes is heading in the right director for her career. In the last ten years she has been fighting her way up the ladder and had some good roles and perhaps this doesn't seem like something that will get her noticed but she does a terrific job in her role leading the film! Her character is disturbed, flawed and emotional. She has a real charisma on screen and as unlikely as their relationship seems she has good chemistry with Kristin Cavallari. Cavallari plays her sister who is the stereotypical party girl but her character really works. Her performance doesn't hold a candle to Pipes but she doesn't bring the cast down as one might expect. She does a decent job and she certainly plays the eye candy role properly. Josh Henderson is good as Pipes' love interest. This film is heavily reliant on the female characters so he is definitely a back seat character but he does his role decently and their chemistry is solid. Andrew Lawrence as the resident film bully is in the same boat. Back seat character, not a big focus of the film but does okay in his role. In the poorest performance of the film is straight to video, B-Movie King who was an Oscar winner at one point Lou Diamond Phillips. He is some sort of creepy teacher/role model but his role just makes the film feel campy when he is on screen and I wish they had found a different actor entirely.Director Harry Basil is about as eclectic or eccentric as you can get. He's been involved in enough main stream films as producer and actor but his directing history are mostly unknown straight to video productions like this but there is no doubt he has control over telling a story. Seeing this film makes me want to see his other films because he tells a great story and the small town setting with the hidden secrets is done very, very well. Brother writers Jason and Brian Cleveland are new to Hollywood but hopefully this proves they can tell a story even if it is in a genre that is known for being cliché and predictable. If anything the twist and mystery to this story is anything but predictable which makes this more watchable than your average cheesy horror. If you want a good mystery, something not too heavy and a little gem at the video store (or on Netflix) absolutely check this out because it doesn't disappoint. 8/10

But i found this to be very interesting. i mean you may have a few bad actors but the good ones make up for it in the movies like these. were the story is more profound and unique then the high budget films that use a franchise name to install 2 crappy sequels to a one good film like we have witnessed many a time. this at least uses originality, wit, cleaver story telling and is unique to the clicky genre! this is why i watch low budget films all the time, its times when i find a gem like this that makes my low budget scavenging pays off.great story, hope to see more from some of these people that took part in this feature!
