Joanna Mccarty Amazing worth wacthing. So good. Biased but well made with many good points.
Stephan Hammond It is an exhilarating, distressing, funny and profound film, with one of the more memorable film scores in years,
Quiet Muffin This movie tries so hard to be funny, yet it falls flat every time. Just another example of recycled ideas repackaged with women in an attempt to appeal to a certain audience.
Celia A great movie, one of the best of this year. There was a bit of confusion at one point in the plot, but nothing serious.
tallhappyjake This is a meaningful film about a man who seeks redemption after decades in prison for a mistake that he made when he was so young.I always liked Kenny Johnson from his work on the Shield and remember seeing him early on in Blade. Truly great performances from Kenny Johnson, Brad Dourif, Rainn Wilson, David Marciano, Laura San Giacomo, and Michael Sheen. Some of the scenes of Kenny Johnson walking in different locations in Los Angeles are some of the most beautiful that I have ever seen in film. Director George Pappy, Jr. has created a deep story here. I am looking forward to seeing George's next film. I saw that it is called Dark Well, but do not know much about it.
punishmentpark Quite cliché essentially, but gets away with it, mostly due to the sympathetic atmosphere of the whole. The protagonist is a helpless ex-con who is confronted with a new (and old, in another way) world, after about 25 years of incarceration. The plot has a slow pacing and takes careful steps towards a few inevitable confrontations... it pretty much worked for me.The acting of Kenny Johnson is decent, although he isn't the most charismatic actor. There are quite a few other (bigger or smaller) roles played by some familiar names, of which Erin Daniels was my favorite. Brad Dourif, Rainn Wilson, Laura San Giacomo (tiny role) and Michael Sheen (tiny role) are worth mentioning also.Nice twist at the end, but I'm not sure how much I liked him 'just' walking away (from his mother and Helen)... but I'll take it. P.s. June 25th, 2014: terrible new title.
oliver2224 I attended the screening of this movie last year and very much enjoyed it. It follows the experiences of an ex-con just released from prison as he attempts to reintegrate with society. The cast features such notables as Kenny Johnson, Rainn Wilson and Brad Dourif. Excellent acting, directing and screen writing! It's amazing what the cast and crew has done with a limited budget - the film has some really exceptional storytelling and you become fully invested in the success of the main character despite the feeling that all the odds are stacked against him. If only more movies made this kind of effort to develop the psyches of their main characters!
dwcuts1973 Never has the simpleton Pfc. Louden Downey echoed through a story's protagonist as this one. The typical story of a man turning his life around but finds himself constantly between the proverbial rock and hard place. The progression of the protagonist is by no means aided by the actor's attempt at portrayal of innocence lost. The story is simply mundane, unbelievable, and filled with glaring predictability. From "not knowing how to do this" in an attempt at dating after a stint in prison to the "has little Johnny learned his lesson that crime doesn't pay" progression of the protagonist. Ultimately the story fell flat out of the gate, leaving one to ponder:"Would I have been captivated by the story minus the atrocious acting?" If story is akin to life, and past is prologue, then god help us all.
