Exit Humanity Audience Reviews

Manthast Absolutely amazing
Sarita Rafferty There are moments that feel comical, some horrific, and some downright inspiring but the tonal shifts hardly matter as the end results come to a film that's perfect for this time.
Cassandra Story: It's very simple but honestly that is fine.
Walter Sloane Mostly, the movie is committed to the value of a good time.
Leofwine_draca Civil War zombies! Yes, EXIT HUMANITY has the distinction of being a historical zombie flick, an extremely limited sub-genre at present, so it has novelty value going for it. Unfortunately it turns out that this ultra-cheap Canadian quickie was filmed in the woods without a whole lot of originality or indeed direction despite the intrigue raised by the premise. The main character is a former soldier who wanders around some very mundane locales while battling a few zombies here and there. The lack of budget really hurts this film, as it's often forced to descend into dodgy animation in order to portray key sequences. The effect is amateurish to say the least and the main actor doesn't really inspire much confidence in the viewer either. There are a few conversations on the nature of war and the like before this descends into characters stumbling around in near-darkness and killing each other. There are a few familiar faces here (Dee Wallace and Bill Moseley, along with Brian Cox providing the narration) but otherwise nothing much to recommend it.
finetunes My summary statement is not accurate; I couldn't get through more than 25 minutes of the movie it was so boring! Twenty five minutes of crying felt like twenty five years. Casting call - need male lead who can cry for an indeterminate long time. Must be able to cry in post-bellum Southern-American English. I wonder if there were a lot of takes on those crying scenes. It's likely that the director finished with an initial edited movie of no more than 17 minutes and he had to pad it out. Maybe I'm being unfair in my assessment of the movie but if one is completely bored to death for the first 3rd of the movie then it's too much to ask the viewer to finish it.(I don't know how Stanley Kubrick got away with it in "2001, a Space Odyssey)". (Even with being on hold with my heath provider that whole time I was still too bored to see it through). Sound track - not for a zombie film, it sounded like they hired a 2 fingered keyboard player. For those reviewers that loved the movie, I suspect they were ringers, friends, cast and crew members and, without a doubt, the backers (maybe not the backers cause this was so low budget it didn't need backers.) The only thing remotely original in this train wreck of an abortion: the concept of having a crybaby as the lead in a zombie movie... never been done before. And for that reason I give it a one star instead of a zero.Initial movie title - "OH! The Humanity."
McQualude Six years after the American Civil War a former soldier, Edward Young, tries to survive the zombie apocalypse as told by his diary and sketches; narrated by one of his descendants. The film begins in 1865 when dead soldiers stand up and attack the living. Armed with muzzle loaders and cavalry swords the war ravaged population is quickly decimated. The first third of the movie is very good. The scenes with Young (played by Mark Gibson) alone or with his horse are well acted and well written. Once Young meets other survivors the script often feels rushed and sometimes a bit cheesy, actress Dee Wallace' lines especially so. There are a few other issues: The scenery doesn't look much like Tennessee; which of course it isn't as it was filmed in Ontario. Young's repeating rifle is a few decades early for the setting but I can live with it. Normally I would criticize a zombie film for trying to explain the cause because explanations usually seem dumb but here it is handled very well and I have no complaint. Despite some obvious flaws it was a sincere effort and it kept my attention.
bytewriteu Even with the budget constraints this film is going to be a classic for the genre. It's something new which is rare but I think shows that the genre isn't tapped out. I love the "look" of this film. If you saw "Stakeland" or "The Road" then you will as well. It's got a good script and the feel of a much bigger budget movie. What these guys managed to accomplish with the limits they had is truly great. Keep in mind that I am a BIG fan of the genre and if you are and love something original, then you'll be very glad you saw this movie. I don't get how people rated this as low as they did. It's totally unfair if your comparing this to other similar genre movies out there. This movie is at least a 6 or 7 on it's own and higher for the genre. It's original, interesting, has great pacing and an "actual" story. The actors are great. Ms. Wallace is fantastic.
