Eight Crazy Nights Audience Reviews

Scanialara You won't be disappointed!
Exoticalot People are voting emotionally.
Guillelmina The film's masterful storytelling did its job. The message was clear. No need to overdo.
Jerrie It's a good bad... and worth a popcorn matinée. While it's easy to lament what could have been...
guypersonal While this movie does contain plenty of potty jokes and foul words, what it makes up with it's lack of holdiay family fun, and any real sense of comedy, it makes up with a fantastic music score and a message of treating others how you'd like to be treated. The movies ending does show a happy ending, and reasoning behind Sandler's antics in the film. However throughout the film Sandler's character Davey isn't that polite, mature, or family friendly. It really isn't until the climax of Davey finally letting out a cry that the movie turns to a positive footnote. However again I must say for a Sandler film (good or bad) the films soundtrack is very enjoyable. With catchy beats and good singing, it can make you replay it. However as a holiday movie it can be depressing to an extent. The only happy parts are when the people realize their mistake towards Whitey, another sandler character. My only advice is if you really want to watch this, keep in mind it will pick up for the better towards the end.
henrikjbodin-213-189153 It was a long time since I saw this movie, I bought it when one of the last VHS rental stores was closing up, 10 movies for 100 Swedish kronor, (like 13 bucks) I think it was, and today i watched a few clips on you-tube, and I almost started crying. I have actually cried to this movie, several times, and I consider it a true masterpiece. Sure, it has a plump humour, crude to be honest, and the story line is a lot like many of Adam Sandlers movies, below average, but this movies has lots of heart, and it gives a lovely perspective on both the human experience and what it is to be human. The last, what is it, 15 years? I have quoted the homeless man several times, in the dark, I may be ugly and smelly, but in the dark, I am just smelly. That my friends is really something. And in the scene at the mall, I've actually started crying several times, and I am not quick to tears. If you read some of the bad reviews here, you might get put of by this pearl, but give it a chance. In most cases, or rather all other cases, I hate Adam Sandler, but this movie is amazing. I've seen all Bergman's movies, and Kurosawa's, and a bunch of pretentious, great and poetic films, but I don't think any movie, except maybe castaway on the moon by Hae-Jun Lee, has touched me and stayed with me this much and for this long. Get some hot chocolate and some nice sandwiches and watch it, not as a kids cartoon, but as a Christmas story for adults. You might not like it, but you might love it, as I do.
gregeichelberger Originally published on Dec. 6, 2002: If there's one thing worse than an Adam Sandler film, it's an ANIMATED Adam Sandler film, and the newest Columbia release, "Eight Crazy Nights," is certainly no exception to this rule. And despite some allusions to Dickens' tale of redemption and forgiveness in "A Christmas Carol," this story is vile, depressing and mean-spirited with absolutely no redeeming value but to give the normally intelligent viewer a terrific migraine. The title refers to the eight nights of Hannukah and is about as respectful to the Jewish faith as a Yassar Arafat speech in the West Bank or Adolf Hitler's Nuremberg Laws.Plot has Sandler-voiced Davey Stone, a bitter alcoholic (can you feel the Holiday spirit?!) sentenced to community service by a judge with as much sense as Lance Ito.This punishment, which involves him as a referee for youth basketball games is like putting Jeffrey Dahmer in charge of a Boy Scout picnic. In this position, Stone is sheltered by another ref, Whitey (also voiced by Sandler), a small, goofy old man whose kindness is repaid by being shoved down a hill while using a porta-potty.Sidesplitting so far, isn't it? Another scene we're supposed to laugh at is when Stone insults a pudgy boy by making fun of his breasts. Comedy like will most likely appeal to drunken idiots or college frat guys with absolutely nothing better to do.Another problem with this film is that with each rotten insult, each lame joke and each failing gag is that the viewer - if he or she has ANY brains at all - actually feels embarrassed to be in on it. In other words, there is nothing even remotely humorous about this horrid dung-heap.And Stone, even though a cartoon, is such a revolting, nasty, unsympathetic lead that one feels nothing but open disdain for his character. Even the script's lame attempt to justify his behavior by making his parents die on the eve of Hannakah when he was a kid, does not illicit one bit of positive emotion at all.To make things even worse, the picture is sprinkled with several Holiday song parodies, including a new version of Sandler's "Hannakah Song," making it one of the worst musicals since "Grease 2" and "Newsies." Like any number of Sandler movies (with the possible exception of "The Water Boy" and "The Wedding Singer"), intelligent dialogue is substituted with maniacal outbursts and acts of bizarre violence, while comedy is replaced with vulgarities and just plain stupidity. Then, there's the artwork, which features Stone drawn to look just like Sadler, but other principal characters inked like poor versions of Yoda, while several of the star's stable-mates, including "SNL" alumni Rob Schneider and Kevin Nealon, among others fill up the non-talented vocal cast. All in all, "Eight Crazy Night" is about as cheerful and watching an embalming and is a film that only Ed Gein would enjoy - although he might have had better taste than that now that I think about it.
moon-neko In my top 5 worst movies ever! Not funny at all, just annoying. There's a lack of Chanukah movies so I was excited to find out about this one, but when I watched it I found that all the characters grated on my nerves. I didn't even laugh once. It's rare that a comedy manages to be this unfunny.I rarely like Adam Sandler but I've seen the occasional movie with him that I've enjoyed, and it has a small role with Rob Schneider in it and he's usually quite funny. This movie was a real let-down though. It was the cinematic equivalent of getting teeth pulled. I wouldn't recommend this movie to anyone...
