It isn't all that great, actually. Really cheesy and very predicable of how certain scenes are gonna turn play out. However, I guess that's the charm of it all, because I would consider this one of my guilty pleasures.

Excellent characters with emotional depth. My wife, daughter and granddaughter all enjoyed it...and me, too! Very good movie! You won't be disappointed.

A great movie, one of the best of this year. There was a bit of confusion at one point in the plot, but nothing serious.

After playing with our expectations, this turns out to be a very different sort of film.

This movie is a must see for the Rodney Dangerfield fan. I think its his finest work as the main character. I grew up around neighbors like this character. The over protective father, pissing away the mortgage at the track for a "tip" that turns out to be mush. Out drinking late with his buddy every night.Rodney and Joey have great chemistry in this ... much funnier than Back to School yet doesn't get the credit ... some of the funniest zingers in a single movie aside from Midnight Run..you just cant help but laugh from beginning to end. Rodney plays the blue collar married father of two daughters to perfection. Joey plays the single playboy buddy / neighbor perfectly as well. Geraldine Fitz is great as the rich ball busting mother in law. Jennifer Jason Leigh has the "guidette daddy's little girl" down pat.

If you've seen any Rodney Dangerfield movie, then you should know what sorts of things to expect in "Easy Money". He plays a rowdy guy who has to end his vices so that he and his wife (Candice Azzara) will inherit a department store. Mostly, the movie is an excuse for Dangerfield to play his common role of the eternally obnoxious guy. But don't get me wrong, he ends up doing some funny stuff, with great support provided by Joe Pesci as his irresponsible friend, Geraldine Fitzgerald as the irritating mother-in-law and Taylor Negron as the mischievous son-in-law. One of the funniest scenes is the whole sequence in the department store; that must have been so much fun to film! All in all, it's not the funniest movie of all time, but does elicit a few laughs. Also starring Jennifer Jason Leigh, Tom Noonan, Tom Ewell (of "The Seven Year Itch") and Lili Haydn.

I rarely watch a movie more than twice, but this one I've watched four times since I bought the DVD. I just want to hear the theme song one more time - and end up watching the whole movie! The story is very good, both funny and thought provoking. There's not a dull moment. Even the scenes with Monty's daughter and Julio, which at first seem a little unnecessary, make sense at the end (SPOILERS!) when Julio accidentally shoots Monty in the a**. If this isn't Rodney Dangerfield's greatest film, I don't know what is. It's the best that I have seen, and I have seen a lot of good ones: Caddyshack, Back to school and Meet Wally Sparks. Little Nicky with Adam Sandler is horrible, avoid it like plague... Speaking of - Joe Pesci as Rodney / Monty's pal Nicky does one of his best comedic performances as well. The scene where he shows Monty how easy it is to control smoking is hilarious. At the risk of sounding a little naive (like Monty's pal Paddy, when he tries to pick up the stripper by asking her to meet his parents), I have to say I was a little disappointed (SPOILERS!) at the lack of moral the end of the story provided. Therefore - 9/10.

I was surprised that the comments were so uniformly positive. So I wanted to add some variety. The movie is very funny. Its a humor that explores in an honest way the modern American clash between the values of over indulgence and the prudish restraint that tries unsuccessfully to hold it back. This movies is not just funny, there is a lot of subtle social commentary going on under the surface, but exactly what it ends up saying is unclear. The movie leaves no one out in the process of mocking both the over indulgence of Rodney's character (eating, smoking, drinking, gambling, drugs) and the prudish snobbery of the mother in law.The money grubbing younger daughter, and the frigid older daughter are also hilarious and relevant to the main story of the clash of values. Loved that line of clothing too.Its not perfect. I'd like to have seen the mother in law arrested for fraud. (I believe that faking your own death is a criminal offense! it could also lead to civil litigation by her company's share holders if its publicly traded). One complaint however is that the movie touches upon the issue of addiction and mocks it. IS Rodney's character addicted to his vices or does he just enjoy them. The question is not resolved in the movie though he seems to believe he has addictions (he says so). If its just about opposing values of indulgence vs. prudery than its a great social commentary that is balanced in its mockery. But in touching on addiction it makes light of what are really difficult mental health problems. The last scene is great as a comic ending, but I'm sure many people in AA or GA or other self help recovery groups must be greatly offended by it.
