EssenceStory Well Deserved Praise
ChicDragon It's a mild crowd pleaser for people who are exhausted by blockbusters.
Sabah Hensley This is a dark and sometimes deeply uncomfortable drama
Stephanie There is, somehow, an interesting story here, as well as some good acting. There are also some good scenes
JJS Warning -- spoilerFirst, I want to point out that the 1 star rating is only because IMDb does not allow a zero. I found this nothing but a display of violence, hatred, and revenge from the time the three new boys were admitted to the facility until the last survivor was beaten (presumably to death) by the guards. "Trustees," the inmates who had earned some degree of trust by their honorable behavior, were shown to not be worthy of any trust, because all they did was use it abuse lower-level inmates. There was only one half-hearted attempt at any kind of counseling, and it ended in a fistfight because the "teacher" let insults fly without even bothering to encourage civil discourse. Other than that, it was unreasoning hatred, violence, and revenge from first frame to last. A complete waste of time.
Aaron Savage This movie hit home for me because I was once locked up in a juvenile detention facility. The only thing I disagree with in this movie is the guards were not violent enough but the setting is the same if not worse on how you get treated by the people around you. For all the people who said this was a "Bad movie" "had no plot" you have never lived it so you would not have the first clue what this movie was attempting to convey with its ending and storyline. The psychology is nearly the same and it does not matter how you go in, your environment changes and with it you must change yourself. You may have heard the term "debt dog" but I doubt it. This movie hits as close as your going to probably get without someones story like mine.
mextwin2 First off, go watch this movie right now! Warning: it can be hard to watchThis film was such a different film that I've ever seen. With its brutality and never ending revenge, it grips you. When angel and Davis died, my heart sank because I sympathized with them. This film has such AMAZING performances by all the actors and the characters you either sympathize with or not. There will be characters in this movie that you just hope the hero will retaliate. I haven't seen Scum yet, but I definitely willI RECOMMEND THIS MOVIE!!!
thebogofeternalstench Right from the start of the film, or "yaaaah, movie" as the yanks say, you know the whole film is going to be $hit, what with the over acted yelling involving that miserable looking idiot and the screw.I couldn't quite pinpoint it, but the whole flow and style of the film was cheesy, two dimensional and unrealistic. The dialog is laughable, the main screw walks round with a cup of tea/coffee most of the time.Every main scene from Scum is ripped of in Dogpound. The snooker room scene is replaced with a table tennis scene, instead of one of the antagonists getting walloped with a snooker ball filled sock, hes smacked in the face with a table tennis bat. Even the bathroom scene is somewhat copied. And the rape scene was utterly pathetic. THe guy being raped easily could of/should of defended off his attackers.THe film goes and ends nowhere. I absolutely hated it.
