Diary of a Sinner Audience Reviews

Alicia I love this movie so much
Casey Duggan It’s sentimental, ridiculously long and only occasionally funny
Marva It is an exhilarating, distressing, funny and profound film, with one of the more memorable film scores in years,
Cristal The movie really just wants to entertain people.
jonathan-577 An ex-pimp and an ex-priest meet through the thin walls of their apartment building, and hatch a cool idea - let's be as decadent as possible for one week, and then flip a coin to see who kills themselves. Even in this very primitive early work, you can see Ed Hunt's wheels turning - there are few exploitation filmmakers out there with a more unpredictable imagination, and while this is definitely a softcore porn film, there's also no question that this movie is ABOUT something. It's a study of decadence, not (just) an exercise in it. These guys may think it's a cool idea to kidnap some girl and rape her, but it's just an excuse for them to talk about how afterwards they feel kinda empty inside; they yell 'nice tits' at a girl who has just finished a long monologue about how she can't even kill herself right. Without the outrageous sci-fi trappings that later gave full play to his imagination, here Hunt bends your mind with an anticlerical sex-on-the-altar scene (regrettably disembowelled by some censor in the only copy you're likely to find - they seem to have torn the offending content out with their teeth). It's a depressingly nihilist piece of work, that's for sure, and the acting is awful in that softcore way, but you can see an inquisitive craftsmanship shining through the cracks nonetheless. Gets an extra star for the uber-funky soundtrack provided by BO DIDDLEY of all people!!!
