Cinderella Audience Reviews

CheerupSilver Very Cool!!!
GazerRise Fantastic!
BelSports This is a coming of age storyline that you've seen in one form or another for decades. It takes a truly unique voice to make yet another one worth watching.
Griff Lees Very good movie overall, highly recommended. Most of the negative reviews don't have any merit and are all pollitically based. Give this movie a chance at least, and it might give you a different perspective.
marcuscaiazzo This film, like many other Korean powerful films I have seen, no matter what genre the film resides, it's always so heart wrenching and deep, definitely worth the watch if you are similar to me and love films that not only pull at the heart strings but give them a little twist too, It's clear to see where the Korean cinema infatuation begins, these directors are professional romanticists hitting the heart every step of the way. Epic.
Paul Magne Haakonsen This 2006 South Korean horror movie is more than just your average Asian ghost movie. It also offers a nice jab at the shallow and self-indulgent phenomena of beauty ideals and plastic surgery. I enjoyed this jab at the hollow plastic surgery culture that we live in today, because it is so pathetic that people undergo plastic surgery in a vague attempt to live up to the beauty ideals set by an equally hollow fashion industry fueled by the almighty dollar."Cinderella" (aka "Sin-de-rel-la") is not a scary movie, not by a long shot, and definitely not by South Korean standards - if you compare it to other South Korean horror movies. But what it lacks in scares it sort of make up for in the story, and definitely do so in the acting. If you enjoy the traditional Asian style ghost and horror genre, then "Cinderella" might be a bit out of your liking. It is not a traditional genre movie. But if you like to see something that breaks out of the pattern and brings something new to the genre, by all means spend about an hour and a half on watching "Cinderella".Director Man-Dae Bong managed to put together an interesting movie. And although it is slow paced, it does build up the story quite nicely. "Cinderella" is a horror movie driven by a proper storyline and not by scares, ghosts and special effects.I found "Cinderella" to be a good alternative in the South Korean horror cinema, where many other movies tend to follow a step by step instruction manual of how to piece together a horror movie.
starsybyll The story revolves around Hyun-soo and her mother, plastic surgeon Yoon- hee who have a very close and loving relationship. The first portion is relatively straight-forward body horror involving an unknown ghost causing the friends of Hyun-soo, who have undergone plastic surgery, to go mad and mutilate their faces. Meanwhile, Hyun-soo investigates her home and discovers a photo of a badly burned child with her name. The second half of the film revolves around the story of how Hyun-soo was burned and how she ended up with a new face. Yoon-hee took in a lost girl after Hyun-soo's accident and, after a time, decides to remove her face and transplant it to Hyun-soo. Yoon-hee then keeps the second girl locked up in the basement for years where she eventually hangs herself, returning as a ghost to haunt the family. The most prominent issue with this film is the tendency it has to skip around in time with no warning and for no purpose. The second portion involving the other Hyun-soo is particularly confusing as many different points in time are alternated between almost simultaneously. I'm usually fairly good with time skips but for most of the last 30 minutes I had no idea what time frame the scenes were occurring or even if the film's setting had left reality and was now entirely nightmare or imaginary. It has no sort of logical anachronic order and at many times seems random in it's placement of the flashbacks as there is no lead up to them. I think the problem most viewers who aren't used to Asian horror might face are with the drama elements of the film. There are really only a few jump scares, making it much more about atmosphere and character relationships than it is about a quick thrill. As stated above, the movie's frequent time skipping is its main weakness, but its' two part breakdown and drama is common of K-horror. I would not recommend it to people new to K-Horror because it is slowly paced compared to much American/Western horror. Do not go in expecting to jump. Regardless, it's a slightly above average K-horror with some interesting scenes and reveals at the end.As a side note: it has barely anything in common with the fairy tale of its' nomenclature; but that isn't a criticism, just likely a source of confusion for some.
Alexander Bondarenko Cinderella is pretty much a brain breaker, like in others terror Asian films. It is creepy but beautiful at the same time.Women take the whole plot here, it's all about women. That could be the worst of the film, but it is actually the best. A message is there, it is just a matter of time (until the last minutes) to understand it. I would say that this Cinderella movie has enough plot to make one of those 3 months t.v novels. It is good, really good. It actually makes you think about what are you watching, NOT Recommended for "AMERICANIZED" people.Probably we'll see an American remake of this well-done jewel.9 out of 10
