The movie is wonderful and true, an act of love in all its contradictions and complexity

I liked Egoyan's The Sweet Hereafter a lot - but I saw it back when my life allowed for more immersion in poetic, dreamlike intervals. And it dealt with communal/family dynamics, along with loss & tragedy - so, in a way, it had an easier path to intense engagement. 'Chloe' is one of several films I've recently seen that have all centered on the loss of power/attractiveness that can happen to women over a certain age - this film would be nothing without that as an integral, albeit unspoken theme. So my first problem is being very tired of this theme, or of nothing new/interesting being done with it.The second big problem is the film's pacing... so slow, I was tempted to fast forward a few times to see if the 'thriller' part would ever begin. Which brings me to Problem No. 3...Amanda Seyfried - had her part gone to someone who doesn't look like a fish (to me, Seyfried does, although I'm clearly in the minority on this), Chloe's (the character's) actions, along with her accounts of erotic/sexual encounters, might have been more exciting/evocative. But I find it so difficult to imagine that anyone would want to engage in relations with her that... well, there you have it. I'm writing this review in case there's anyone else who's on the fence re: watching, per Seyfried's presence, or who did watch & is searching for another voice that they can relate to. Moore's amazing (although, as someone said, she hardly looks ready to be 'put out to pasture'); Neeson's fine. The son's character is surprisingly boring & unattractive. Sorry!

We all have those actors we never really manage to click with, whom most likely have some kind of obvious promise and talent but just don't sit well with us and mine has always been Seyfried. I just don't like her, I think she's overrated. Chloe however is underrated as I hadn't ever heard the name of the film before, even though the actors involved such as Liam Neeson and Julianne Moore are household names. It wouldn't appeal to everyone, the film isn't funny, scary, thrilling or anything as such but its an intricate character piece and is more or less fascinating to experience. Think Fatal Attraction meets Roman Polanski's Carnage. There's a heavy amount of character development throughout which always prompts perspective of a benevolent director, he knows what the audience wants and promises something we only receive ten minutes before the end. Unfortunately for Egoyan's audience, it's slightly anti- climactic and we're left with plenty of unanswered questions. The acting is fantastic, really. Even from Amanda Seyfried who I've already mentioned as usually managing to turn me off from a film, but even her I found to be effortless and cool in the delivery of the title character. The chemistry between Moore, Neeson and Seyfried is taut, real and memorably erotic. Unfortunately overall, I wouldn't clamber to watch it again but I did find it enjoyable and stimulating for the duration. Recommended. 6/10

An ageing wife hires a babe to prove her husband is a cheater, but the babe has eyes for her.Simplistic drama that avoids every interesting development, and all the possibilities that kept me guessing evaporated well before the end. It is stylish and well made, with a good cast. The actress playing the babe is outstanding - one look-to-camera with her green eyes filling the screen - but she's not the thing, and the roles for the more experienced actors feel misguided. Not sure where this goes wrong. The director did something similar in Where The Truth Lies - promising lots, but ending up with little. The writer gives some clunky scenes that make the story struggle, and doesn't let the actors tell a satisfying story. The score is excellent, loved every second of it, and the pace is good.Overall, made-for-TV feel after an intriguing build-up.

A married doctor wife suspects that her professor husband is cheating on her, so she hires a young prostitute to lure him and see what will happen. The results are far from what she was expecting.Julianne Moore gives a stellar performance in the character of a troubled wife and Liam Neeson is more hansom than usual. Amanda Seyfried as the titular character seems OK but other actresses could have done better. The film has a sensual feel (and some nudity and sex scenes) and the music works towards that direction. You keep guessing what will happen next, and if the movie take a 180o turn at any point. There are some "surprises" so to speak but overall the ending disappoints. It is good for a nightly viewing before sleep but It could have been so much more....
