Casa de Mi Padre Audience Reviews

Inclubabu Plot so thin, it passes unnoticed.
Ploydsge just watch it!
Beystiman It's fun, it's light, [but] it has a hard time when its tries to get heavy.
Ogosmith Each character in this movie — down to the smallest one — is an individual rather than a type, prone to spontaneous changes of mood and sometimes amusing outbursts of pettiness or ill humor.
kosmasp Now if you were or maybe still are a big fan of the soaps, especially those from Mexico, than you may see more in this. Or you may be offended of course. But this one shot idea (no pun intended) loses quite a lot of its driving power. There are certain scenes that do have a lot of fun and a lot of material that are entertaining. But maybe I'm spoiled. And I don't just mean other Will Ferrell movies, but also a movie called "Tears of the Black Tiger", which while paying homage to cinema and Westerns and different other aspects, really walked the fine line perfectly. This movie has a lot shout-outs too (my sub-woofer had a lot to work with) and there is a lot of violence of course. And it's almost entirely in Spanish, if you didn't know that already. Watch but don't expect too much
hoxjennifer If you're a Will Ferrell fan, this isn't quite exactly the same kind of Will Ferrell comedy that you might be accustomed to (except there is a scene where you see his awkward, pasty buttocks, but... that's to be expected I guess). Casa de mi Padre is supposed to poke fun at Telenovellas, so unless you are familiar with that genre and understood the fun that this movie is intended to poke fun at, then you will not get this movie at all. I certainly didn't. I wasn't able to connect with anything. I found the jokes awkward and haphazard. Some of the scenes are obviously badly done on purpose, but it's still painful to watch. The worst part was the love scene...which was just awful. From an outside looking in perspective, I'm not sure what this was supposed to be. It's not outright comedy to me, and it's not really a drama. It's a parody targeted for a limited audience, so not really everybody's cup of tea.Although it's amusing to see Will Ferrell speaking Spanish - he's pretty good in my opinion! And Gael Garcia Bernal is still sexy as ever as the evil drug-lord Onza. I watched this film out of curiosity, but wouldn't personally recommend it.
patxiroca Awful. Like all Will Ferrell movies. Really awful. I had hopes, given that Gael García Bernal is a very talented actor. Indeed the only reason I watched this was because of Bernal. I honestly hope this doesn't have a lasting negative impact on his career. It does, however, make me question his judgement. He's far too talented to have participate in another juvenile slapstick Will Ferrell waste of time. In this film, Ferrell manages to reduce the entire cast and crew to his level--that of a pile of stinking dog crap. Now let me be honest, the first half of this film was so very very bad that I simply couldn't stomach any more of it and turned it off. Thus it is possible that in the last half, Ferrell suddenly became an actual actor with a touch of talent, and the film magically turns around. But given Ferrell's track record or participating in films that aren't worth the plastic in the DVD, I have serious doubts.
SnoopyStyle Armando Alvarez (Will Ferrell) works on his father's financially struggling ranch in Mexico. His younger brother Raul (Diego Luna) shows up with new fiancé Sonia (Genesis Rodriguez). Raul's business gets them involved with the drug lord, the mighty Onza (Gael Garcia Bernal). Will Ferrell is trying to do mocksoap like 'Spinal Tap' does with rock documentaries. Although the question is does soap operas truly need mocking? Are they not truly mock proof? My opinion is there really isn't any Will could do here that somebody would find shocking in a soap. The acting is too mannered. It's certainly not funny enough. It would help to do more slapstick. The story itself is meaningless and unimportant.
