Excellent but underrated film

What a freaking movie. So many twists and turns. Absolutely intense from start to finish.

Through painfully honest and emotional moments, the movie becomes irresistibly relatable
Tobias Burrows
It's easily one of the freshest, sharpest and most enjoyable films of this year.

This addition to the Sacha Cohen catalog is pretty decent. Its not Borat, but better than the Dictator or Brothers Grimsby. I actually worked at the Village Inn (where he buys the pie)depicted in the movie. It is in Bentonville Arkansas right off of I-49. I also worked with the lady that serves him the pie. Her name is Dee. It was crazy to see her/it in such a huge world-wide movie. Unfortunately, Sacha and Larry Charles could not remember where the scene was filmed when making the commentary. Bentonville is actually the home of Walmart and the home office is just a couple miles from that restaurant. The cage fight was filmed in a town about an hour south on the same highway. Fortunately Bentonville has a more diverse and cosmopolitan population than the types of people you see at the cage fight.

For whatever reason, I saw this twice in theaters back in 2009. I thought it was pretty funny then, if a little awkward in places. It also had a weak story, but BORAT had basically the same problem. Now with seven years of perspective, I found it about as funny as I did then, but I watched it with better company this time. A slim majority of the gags hit, but I laughed just as hard at them the third time around. Despite being quite scattershot in its targets until the final act, BRUNO does have some interesting points about the way homosexuals and homosexuality are treated in America. Definitely not for the easily offended, and probably best suited to Sacha Baron Cohen fans.

I started watching this movie because I expected it to be funny. Instead, it tops the list of one of the worst movies I have ever seen. I feel embarrassed for Sacha Cohen Barren for having made it. I seriously felt like I lost brain cells watching this movie. If you LOVE movies like Anchorman or Zoolander then I think you might find this movie mildly amusing but otherwise I would strongly recommend against watching it. The reason why this movie is so bad is because it's way over the top to the point of being unbelievable. I have never in my life met a person that is as "flamboyant" as him. I put flamboyant in quotes because he's really not flamboyant as much as overly offensive. The only reason I watched most of it (I couldn't finish it) was because there was some male nudity, but even that was pretty disappointing.

My hero is an imaginary fellow in an imaginary scenario. He is almost identical to me, but there are two huge differences - he is adept at converting innermost thought into stirring words of passion and truth, and he is brave, the Sacha Baron Cohen kind of brave when he made Bruno. My hero is at a movie critics gathering. Oh look, there's that critic from one of America's oldest and most revered publications who wrote that Bruno "will appeal only to those in the vortex of puberty, or to adults who have failed to progress beyond it." My hero will make a speech to this group, and by the end of his speech everyone will think Bruno is the greatest film of all time. But I am not that hero. Bruno is the best movie ever, and I have not convinced you. Not even close. I could at least try a whole lot harder, but I don't see the point. I've never been good at persuading others through solid reasoning and creative thinking that an idea is right. One key similarity that I and my hero have - we are both extremely perceptive. But don't we all think we're perceptive. If you don't get Bruno, then you don't get it. And if you get it, I think you're very perceptive indeed.
