I am only giving this movie a 1 for the great cast, though I can't imagine what any of them were thinking. This movie was horrible

It’s fine. It's literally the definition of a fine movie. You’ve seen it before, you know every beat and outcome before the characters even do. Only question is how much escapism you’re looking for.

By the time the dramatic fireworks start popping off, each one feels earned.

I only liked this at first and didn't laugh, like 1974 audiences, but re watching it with a friend I couldn't stop laughing! I saw a 3rd time later. I even counted the amount of times I laughed and came to 83- 2 more than in The Hangover. My guardian doesn't like this because it's raunchy but I can name raunchier movies-Ted, There's Something About Mary, That's My Boy, The Hangover, etc. If you need a movie to lift you up, see Blazing Saddles! Fun Fact: The farting scene was muted because it was "too risque"-more than the countless N words!

Even though this is one of Mel Brooks' more acclaimed and respected movies, I felt like he found his beat more later in Spaceballs and Men in Tights. There were parts of this that made me smile, but very few that actually made me laugh. I wasn't surprised that there was some off color humor, because it wouldn't be a Mel Brooks movie if it weren't. But I was surprised that he did as many racial jokes as he did. Some of it is making fun of racism itself, but some of it actually is racist. So that was another tick down. On the upside, it gives a lot of attention to a lot of characters, which added some variety to the style of comedy. I can see how some people might love it, but it just didn't work for me. Overall Rating: 6.6/10.

(Originally reviewed: 15/02/2017) I have never seen a Mel Brooks film before but I had heard tremendous things; so I was prepared for a funny film; and then just before the half hour mark I was contemplating exiting early. If Brook's style is to make jokes about rape and overkill of racial slurs then I can with great pleasure consider this the last time I see one of his films. Gene Wilder is the biggest name on the cast, but he does not feature until 30 minutes in; his character and one other played by Cleaving Little as an unpopular black sheriff have some chemistry and one or two decent scenes but that's about it; everything else is extremely distasteful, foul and morally incorrect. Brooks even cameos as a dim-witted politician who treats women like objects and constantly plays dumb; but only if this were as funny as he thinks. This film manages to offend every race possible except white Americans; there's even one joke where one guy says "we'll' take the N****s and the chinks but we don't want the Irish; brooks knows it's racist and stupid but doesn't care; however I did and I think it's severely painful to watch and a piece of complete garbage. Now I am fully aware this film holds a 90% percent score on Rotten Tomatoes, but to my disdain I am not sure how it got so acclaimed. The dialogue is appallingly bad, "I like rape" is a joke later on in the film; what sick people find that line funny? And constant N-Word's which really grow tiresome like I stated in Tarantino's westerns and then a painfully stupid song which I'm guessing was meant to be funny by a German woman who not only can't sing but has an inability to actually be funny in the process. There's even a farting scene with grown men; fart jokes have never been funny and never will; take note people. The racism was not funny and clearly offensive but none more than the rape jokes; rape is one of the most disgusting things to spoof; it's an unpleasant experience for anyone to have to hear about and Brooks' film is simply a film of rape, racism and offensiveness. I also equally hated a scene where two guys are beating up an old woman; yet another unfunny vile sequence. The last sequence is just a barrage of mindless slapstick with more offensive stereotypes and pure stupidity and I was awaiting the final credits which could not have come any sooner. There's perhaps one or two smiles to be had, but what good is that if your constantly scowling or disgusted for most of the picture; Blazing Saddles is a reprehensible experience; I hated it with a passion and will never understand how such a disgusting piece of work could be considered a classic; this is an early contender for one of the worst films of the 70's and I highly doubt there will be a comedy more downright offensive and distasteful than this hack's alleged spoof of westerns 'Blazing Saddles'.

I wanted to watch this movie because the great Gene Wilder had died recently so I haven't gotten a chance to have time to watch this entire movie! I have seen Young Frankenstein and The Producers but I was disappointed in them, I would always think of Gene Wilder as Willy Wonka ever since he came into my childhood. I'm really sad that he died, he was such a good talented actor out there. RIP Willy Wonka ♡Anyways,I really found the movie very hilarious, the jokes were funny but the rape homes kinda threw me off a bit. I felt there shouldn't have been rape jokes because, it can upset some viewers such as survivors of sexual abuse. I would've think Mel Brooks would be a bit smarter in relation to that rape is a serious offense to mankind! Apart from that hiccup including the racial slurs too, I actually really enjoyed Wilder's and Cleavon Little's teamwork together. It's too bad that these great actors are not with us anymore, no one can ever replace them for their talent they had during their acting careers! The movie ain't the best but it's certainly not the worst. Its good but again, improvements would've been made a little better! I give this movie a rating of 8/10!
