Animal Farm Audience Reviews

Steineded How sad is this?
Numerootno A story that's too fascinating to pass by...
Burkettonhe This is ultimately a movie about the very bad things that can happen when we don't address our unease, when we just try to brush it off, whether that's to fit in or to preserve our self-image.
Humaira Grant It’s not bad or unwatchable but despite the amplitude of the spectacle, the end result is underwhelming.
mcalester66 First of all, I am going to say that my opinion of the book - which is terrible - does not alter my opinion of the film. The film is too far from the book in my opinion. There are too many differences. The beginning of the film presents Farmer Jones as an extremely drunk looser, which he is. If this movie is intended for kids, then the creators don't have any kids. Within the first ten minutes, there is an implied sex scene, and countless frightening images. I got stuck watching this in a literature class. Don't bother watching it if you have the choice. No number of lines in this review can stress how boring and stupid this film was.
guenzeld To me, the saddest thing about this dreadful film is the presence of genuinely fine actors like Paul Scofield and Peter Ustinov. What these artists saw in the script that would make them want to accept it is something I simply cannot understand. It is understandable that non-talents like Grammar and Stewart would wish to be in anything, but Messrs Socfield and Ustinov?Everything went wrong with this, from its surprisingly poor script, to charmless direction, the uninteresting and unhelpful music and camera-work that may work all right on a TV commercial for mouthwash but not in what is supposed to be a serious production. A woebegotten attempt and a farrago. I could not recommend it at all.
Petri Pelkonen The animals start rebelling against farmer Jones and drive him off the farm. The result is an animal farm, a farm led by animals.Animal Farm (1999) is a TV movie directed by John Stephenson.I read George Orwell's original novel from 1945 not too long time ago. This movie I found on a VHS from the library. It has some great voice acting.Kelsey Grammar is the voice of Snowball.Patrick Stewart is Napoleon.Ian Holm is Squealer.Julia Louis-Dreyfus is Mollie.Julia Ormond is Jessie.Paul Scofield is Boxer.Peter Ustinov is Old Major. The late great Pete Postlethwaite is Benjamin. You can also see him as Farmer Jones. The movie's not such a great failure. It may be, if you make too many comparisons between the book and the movie.Orwell's novel is a classic, and this is a so-so movie made of that book. But the movie does have something good.Like Fats Domino's Blueberry Hill was used in a nice way in the end.And Boxer's fate touches you also in the movie, as it did in the book.
Robert Gold I won't rehash the comments of others too much, but as a high school English teacher, I was quite disappointed with this version. It could have been a superior film due to its casting and modern technology. But, no, instead we get so many plot changes that the film loses its main message. When I show selections to my classes, I only use the animated version. It sticks closer to the plot, even though the only animals that speak are the pigs.Rent this version. Don't waste your money on buying it. Instead purchase the animated version on DVD, which also features an interesting extra on the making of the film.Long live Animal Farm, but not the 1999 inferior version!
