A Brilliant Conflict

I wanted to like it more than I actually did... But much of the humor totally escaped me and I walked out only mildly impressed.

Excellent and certainly provocative... If nothing else, the film is a real conversation starter.

Strong acting helps the film overcome an uncertain premise and create characters that hold our attention absolutely.

"Abracadabra" from over 45 years ago is the first documented movie made by 2-time Academy-Award-winning French animator Frédéric Back. And to my own surprise, I enjoyed this one more than most of his other works. He was already in his mid-40s when he made this little movie, so he was a bit of a late-bloomer. But that's perfectly fine. He still managed great things that most other people can only dream of. The runtime here is 9.5 minutes and that was the same for all of Back's early works. We follow a blonde girl who goes on a global journey and makes friends of all colors and ethnicities while on her way. In the end, the sun shines on everybody. This is a very positive movie with a sweet message of tolerance and understanding. I recommend it as I quite enjoyed the watch. Thumbs up for "Abracadabra". This one is, even with zero awards recognition, a pretty decent achievement and one of Back's best.
