A group of dancers congregate on the stage of a Broadway theatre to audition for a new musical production directed by Zach. After the initial eliminations, seventeen hopefuls remain, among them Cassie, who once had a tempestuous romantic relationship with Zach. She is desperate enough for work to humble herself and audition for him; whether he's willing to let professionalism overcome his personal feelings about their past remains to be seen.

A Chorus Line Audience Reviews

Blucher One of the worst movies I've ever seen
Matialth Good concept, poorly executed.
Kaydan Christian A terrific literary drama and character piece that shows how the process of creating art can be seen differently by those doing it and those looking at it from the outside.
Cassandra Story: It's very simple but honestly that is fine.
Susan F I am a native New Yorker and saw the Broadway production four times with the original and first replacement cast. This adaptation is so bad, that it is embarrassing. Avoid it at all cost. The person Who decided to hire Richard Attenbourogh (sic.) must have been the person decided to hire John Huston to direct the awful Annie and Albert Finney to play Daddy Arbucks.
maryprince I do not think that this film is as bad as some of the reviewers on this site would have us believe! Considering that the film is more than thirty years old, the visual quality and choreography has 'held up' well despite the passage of time and I cared about the characters. Considering that most of the action takes place within a single location (the theatre), the director did well at keeping the pace of the film dynamic and the cast was very talented (they could sing, dance and act). I have seen worse, enjoyed the film as a piece of light entertainment and would recommend this movie.
Dalbert Pringle (*Most demented movie-quote imaginable*) - "All I know how to do is point my toes and leap!".... (Spare me!) Believe me - This 1985 "audition" movie was truly idiotic. Its whole premise concerned a bunch of absolutely desperate hopefuls who were all auditioning for (*and I quote from movie*) "a crummy chorus line job".Until seeing "A Chorus Line" - I had never realized just how irrationally emotional dancers really were. I mean, getting this "crummy chorus line job", literally, brought a good number of them to tears. And, on top of that - They were all so anxious about getting this "crummy chorus line job" that they willingly subjected themselves to a totally demented "soul bearing" interrogation from a smug, tyrannical choreographer named Zach in order to land this nothing-of-a-position..... (Sheesh!) The last straw that broke this musical's back, for me, was the introduction of the revolting "Cassie" character into the story. Her utter desperation to land this "crummy chorus line job" was absolutely sickening beyond belief.
Gordon-11 This film chronicles the gruelling audition process for a major Broadway play."A Chorus Line" starts off with an impressive, highly choreographed and impressively synchronised dance performance, but unfortunately the good points end there. The rest of the film features individual auditioning members trying to show off their personalities, and sometimes they really show off so much that it becomes annoying. Who thought that "Year of the Chicken" joke is funny? It is not funny, it is just plain annoying. What evokes more negative feelings is Michael Douglas' character, called Zach. He spends most of the time shouting at people, especially at Cassie. And when he makes people dance, half the time he doesn't even bother watching the dance. The jolly atmosphere is wholly destroyed by Zach.I have not seen the Broadway musical, but as one of the longest running Broadway shows, it has got to be better than "A Chorus Line" the film.
